Wool Felt Sticks Out of Instrument Panel Trim (Supersedes 98-088, dated December 15,1998)

SYMPTOM
A strip of wool felt is sticking out of the instrument panel trim and hanging in front of the gauges.

PROBABLE CAUSE
Weak adhesive backing on the wool felt.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install new strips of wool felt on the top of the instrument panel trim.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Tilt the steering wheel to its lowest position.





2. Remove the two instrument panel trim screws, and gently pull on the bottom of the trim to detach the two clips. Carefully pull the instrument panel trim out of the dashboard.

3. Remove the old wool felt from the top of the instrument panel trim, and clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.

4. Cut two new 10 x 40 mm pieces of wool felt.





5. Apply the wool felt pieces to the ribs behind the two screw holes in the top of the instrument panel trim. Make sure that the wool felt pieces do not stick out past the instrument panel trim opening.

6. Reinstall the instrument panel trim, and make sure the strips of wool felt are not visible.
