ABS Indicator Is On With DTC 81

SYMPTOM

ABS indicator light is on with ABS DTC 51 [Central Processing Unit (CPU) Diagnosis, and ROM/RAM Diagnosis] stored.

PROBABLE CAUSE

ABS control unit malfunction.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the ABS control unit.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Use the PGM Tester to verify that ABS DTC 51 is stored in the ABS control unit.

^ If DTC 51 is stored, go to step 2.

^ If another DTC is stored, continue with normal troubleshooting.

2. Remove the driver's kick panel.





3. Disconnect the ABS control unit connectors.

4. Remove the ABS control unit (two bolts).

5. Install the new ABS control unit. Reconnect the connectors.

6. Reinstall the driver's kick panel.

7. Check that the ABS indicator is off and the DTC is cleared.
