Creaking Noise From the Headliner, Windshield, and/or Rear Window
SYMPTOM
The vehicle may have any of these conditions:
- A creaking noise from the top of the windshield when driving over rough road surfaces
- A creaking noise from the top of the rear window when driving over rough road surfaces
- A creaking or popping noise from the moonroof area of the headliner
PROBABLE CAUSES
1. The Velcro-style fasteners used to secure the glass during the vehicle's assembly are not properly seated (2-Door and 4-Door).
2. The front and/or rear edges of the headliner are rubbing against the body (2-Door only).
3. The flex tubes attached to the underside of the headliner are rubbing against the body (2-Door only).
4. The moonroof opening molding is rubbing against the headliner (2-Door and 4-Door equipped with a moonroof).
5. The sunshade base sliders are loose in the guide rails, and/or the sunshade is not securely held by the base sliders (2-Door and 4-Door equipped with moonroof).
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Trim the windshield and rear window glass fasteners (2-Door and 4-Door).
2. Apply wool felt to the front and rear edges of the headliner (2-Door only).
3. Apply wool felt to the headliner flex tubes (2-Door only).
4. Apply wool felt to the corners inside the moonroof opening molding (moon roof-equipped 2-Doors and 4-Doors).
5. Expand the sunshade base slider spring clips, and apply EPT between the sunshade and its steel frame (moonroof-equipped 2-Doors and 4-Doors).
