Wind Noise From the Top of the Windshield

SYMPTOM
A wind noise from the upper windshield area while driving at highway speeds in warm weather.

PROBABLE CAUSE
Air flowing under the upper windshield molding causes the molding to vibrate and produce wind noise.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Carefully pull back the molding along the top of the windshield, and look for EPT sealer underneath it.

- If you see EPT, the repair has already been performed. Proceed with normal troubleshooting to locate and correct the wind noise.

- If you do not see EPT, it needs to be installed between the molding and the body. Go to the REPAIR PROCEDURE.

NOTE: Make sure to check all vehicles in the affected VIN range, including dealer stock.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Cut a 10 mm x 700 mm piece of EPT sealer 5T.

2. Remove the tape to expose the adhesive back.

3. Saturate the EPT sealer with glass cleaner to lubricate it.

4. Spray glass cleaner on the upper center of the windshield molding. Pull the molding away from the body, and spray cleaner between the seal and the body.

5. Install the EPT sealer between the body and the center area of the windshield molding. Make sure you insert the EPT sealer deep enough to allow the seal to lie flat when released.

6. Test drive the vehicle to make sure that the wind noise is no longer present.
