Safety Improvement Campaign: Passport ABS Coil Integrated Module (Replaces 98-015, Product Update Campaign: ABS Indicator Light Comes On While Driving, dated March 16, 1998)
BACKGROUND
On certain types of road surfaces, particularly where the tires on one side of the vehicle are on a slippery surface, some vehicles may experience extended stopping distances.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be mailed a notification of this campaign. An example of the customer notification is shown in this service bulletin.
Notifications will be mailed in four separate groups: 1998 2WD, 1999 2WD, 1998 4WD, and 1999 4WD. The first group, 1998 2WD, will be mailed on March 20. The other groups will be mailed within the next few months as parts become available.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the ABS coil integrated module, then fill out a safety improvement campaign completion label to the driver's doorjamb.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Write down the radio station presets, then disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the coil integrated module from the hydraulic valve assembly.
3. Clean the module mating surface on the hydraulic valve assembly with a clean shop towel.
4. Install the appropriate new coil integrated module in the reverse order of removal. Torque the screws to 4.4 N.m (39 lb-in).
5. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
6. Enter the radio station presets, and set the clock.
7. Fill out and attach a Safety Improvement Campaign Completion label (reorder # Y0660) to the driver's doorjamb, below the Manufacturers Identification label. If an ABS Module Product Update label is already in that location, peel it off, and attach the new label in its place.
