Door Mirror Cracked

SYMPTOM

The door mirror cracks when the rear window and mirror defogger switch is turned on.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The mirror heating element is not distributing heat evenly across the mirror.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the cracked mirror(s).

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Remove the door mirror.





2. Remove the glass from the mirror.





3. Remove the screw from the center of the mirror holder.





4. Remove the mirror holder from the actuator.

5. With a small flat-tip screwdriver, pry the two pivot struts from the mirror holder.





6. With a medium flat-tip screwdriver, press the pivot struts onto the new mirror holder.





7. With both hands, carefully press the mirror holder onto the actuator until the pivot struts snap into the mirror actuator.

8. Apply the grease supplied with the mirror kit to the center of the mirror holder, and transfer the center pivot from the old mirror holder to the new one.

9. Reinstall the mounting screw.





10. Heat the new mirror holder with the hair dryer until the mirror holder is hot and pliable.

11. Remove the protective strips from the four adhesive pads on the mirror holder.

12. Connect the heater wire connectors to the mirror.

13. Starting from the top edge of the mirror holder, install the mirror by working along the edges, and inserting it under the lip of the mirror holder.

14. Reinstall the mirror on the door, and reconnect the vehicle harness connector.

15. Reinstall the door mirror trim.
