Battery Goes Dead When Towing With a Motorhome
APPLIES TO:
2002-03 CR-Vs with A/T
SERVICE TIP:
Here's something you need to pass on to owner's of 2002-03 CR-Vs with A/T:
If you're going to tow the vehicle behind a motorhome, make sure you remove the No. 8 (7.5 A) fuse (Accessory/Radio) from the interior fuse box. If you don't do this, you could end up with a dead battery by the time you get where you're going. Why? Because the A/T must be in Neutral for towing and the ignition switch must be in the ACCESSORY (I) position so the steering wheel doesn't lock. But with the ignition switch in the ACCESSORY (I) position, the current draw can discharge the battery because the accessory relays are still on. With the No. 8 fuse removed, you reduce the current draw.
Make sure you remove the No. 8 fuse only after you've done the shift procedure described in the O/M. And make sure you reinstall the fuse before driving the vehicle. If you forget, the ignition key could accidentally be removed while the A/T is still in gear. With the fuse installed, the ignition key can be removed only when the shift lever is in Park.
