Repair Procedures
REPAIR PROCEDURE A(Foam Tape Kit: P/N 06245-PRV-305, H/C 7573850)
1. Park the vehicle on a lift. Then apply the parking brake, shift the transmission to neutral (N), and raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the shift cable cover.
3. Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the shift cable cover and the transmission in the areas where you will apply the foam tape.
4. Using the appropriate illustration (2WD Type 1, 2WD Type 2, or 4WD), apply foam tape to the shift cable cover and to the transmission.
5. Remove the spring clip and the control pin. Then separate the shift cable from the control lever.
^ If you can remove the control pin by hand, go to step 7.
^ If you cannot remove the control pin by hand due to corrosion, go to step 6.
6. Replace the shift cable. Refer to the 2002-03 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-165. Use the shift cable kit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
7. Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the shift cable, the control lever, and the control pin.
8. Apply a liberal amount of grease to the control pin, the control lever, and the cable end. Attach the cable end to the control lever, then insert the control pin into the control lever hole through the shift cable end. Secure the control pin with the spring clip.
9. Install the shift cable cover, and torque the three mounting bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft) in the sequence shown.
10. Center-punch a completion mark above the seventh character of the engine compartment VIN.
REPAIR PROCEDURE B
(Control Pin Kit: P/N 06244-PRV-305, H/C 7575905)
1. Park the vehicle on a lift. Then apply the parking brake, shift the transmission to neutral (N), and raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the shift cable cover.
3. Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the shift cable cover and the transmission in the areas where you will apply the foam tape.
4. Using the appropriate illustration (2WD Type 1, 2WD Type 2, or 4WD), apply foam tape to the shift cable cover and to the transmission.
5. Remove and discard the spring clip and the control pin. Then separate the shift cable from the control lever.
^ If you can remove the control pin by hand, go to step 7.
^ If you cannot remove the control pin by hand due to corrosion, go to step 6.
6. Replace the shift cable. Refer to the 2002-03 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-165. Use the shift cable kit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
7. Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the shift cable and the control lever.
8. Apply a liberal amount of grease to the new control pin, the control lever, and the cable end. Attach the cable end to the control lever, then insert the new control pin into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the new spring clip.
9. Install the shift cable cover, and torque the three mounting bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft) in the sequence shown.
10. Center-punch a completion mark above the seventh character of the engine compartment VIN.
REPAIR PROCEDURE C
(Shift Cable Cover and Pin Kit: P/N 06241-PRV-305, H/C 7576333)
1. Park the vehicle on a lift. Then apply the parking brake, shift the transmission to neutral (N), and raise the vehicle.
2. Remove and discard the shift cable cover.
3. Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the new shift cable cover and the transmission in the areas where you will apply the foam tape.
4. Apply foam tape to the new shift cable cover and to the transmission.
5. Remove and discard the spring clip and the control pin. Then separate the shift cable from the control lever.
^ If you cannot remove the control pin by hand due to corrosion, go to step 6.
^ If you can remove the control pin by hand, go to step 7.
6. Replace the shift cable. Refer to the 2002-03 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-165. Use the shift cable kit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
