Creak From the Right Side of the Dash
SYMPTOM
A creak can be heard when driving over bumps. The source of the creak can be difficult to pinpoint.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Body panels on the right side of the cowl are rubbing together.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Create space between the body panels.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
1. Test-drive the vehicle over bumps and small inclines that cause the body to flex. Listen carefully for a noise near the right side of the dash or cowl; it may be hard to pinpoint.
2. Remove the A-pillar trim, and test-drive the vehicle again.
^ If the noise is gone, refer to S/B 03-056, Rattle From the A-Pillar Trim or Corners of the Dashboard.
^ If the noise recurs, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the nuts and the windshield wiper arms.
2. Remove the hood seal and the cowl covers.
3. Use a flat-tip screwdriver to pry apart the two panels 2 mm, as shown.
4. Apply touch-up paint if needed.
5. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the noise is gone. If the noise remains, use the STEELMAN(R) ChaSSiSEAR(TM) Diagnostic Tool to pinpoint and repair the source of the noise. Refer to S/B 00-063, STEELMAN(R) ChaSSISEAR(TM) Diagnostic Tool.

6. Install the cowl cover and the hood seal.
7. Install the windshield wiper arms. Torque the nuts to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
