Without Side Airbag
DTC 81-61: No Signal from Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Unit (Without side airbag)1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Calibrate the front passenger's weight sensor unit.
3. Erase the DTC memory.
4. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 81-61 or 81-62 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, go to the DTC troubleshooting index.
5. Check the connection between the floor wire 6P connector and the front passenger's weight sensor unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Repair the poor connection and retest. If DTC 81-61 or 81-62 is still present, go to step 6.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Check the No.10 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No.10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness or floor wire harness).
8. Disconnect the SRS right side subharness 6P connector C from the front passenger's weight sensor unit.
9. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
10. Check for voltage between the No.3 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
IS there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 15.
NO - Go to step 11.
11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
12. Disconnect dashboard wire harness 24P connector C501 from the floor wire harness (A).
13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
14. Check for voltage between the No.9 terminal of dashboard wire harness 24P connector and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
IS there battery voltage?
YES - Open in the WHT wire of the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness.
NO - Open in the WHT wire of dashboard wire harness; replace dashboard wire harness.
15. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
16. Check resistance between the No.6 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C and body ground. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 17.
NO - Open in the BLK wire of the floor wire harness; check for poor ground connection at G601. If the connection is OK, replace the floor wire harness.
17. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the battery negative cable, and wait for 3 minutes.
18. Disconnect both seat belt tensioner 2P connectors.
19. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit.
20. Check resistance between the No.27 terminal of SRS unit connector B (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 21.
NO - Short to ground in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness.
21. Check resistance between the No.27 terminal of SRS unit connector B (28P) and the No.5 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty front passenger's weight sensor unit or SRS unit; replace the front passenger's weight sensor unit. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit.
NO - Open in the GRN/ORN wire of the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness.
