TOOL USAGE
Bushing Removal
1. Remove the steering gearbox as described in the appropriate service manual.
2. To ensure the EPS bushing tool moves smoothly, apply a small amount of new engine oil to the threaded part of the bolt, the washer, the receiver, and the threaded part of the slotted holder.
3. Assemble the EPS bushing tool with the bolt and the washer on one side of the mount bushing, and the receiver and the slotted holder on the other side of the mount bushing.
4. Slide the threaded portion of the bolt through the mount bushing, through the large opening of the receiver, and secure it with the slotted holder.
5. Hold the receiver, and turn the bolt with a wrench to remove the mount bushing. Remove the mount bushing from the receiver. Do not reuse the removed mount bushing.
Bushing Installation
6. Clean the inside of the mount bushing hole and the surrounding area thoroughly. The mount bushing installation surface must be free of all foreign material.
7. Apply assembly oil to the interior of the receiver, the interior of the mount bushing support hole, and to the new mount bushing.
NOTE:
Use only the assembly oil supplied with the bushing. Using anything else can cause abnormal slippage, deterioration or deflection to the mount bushing and adversely affect the steering stability.
8. Keep all dust, dirt, and other foreign material off the oiled mount bushing. Push the new mount bushing into the receiver lightly with your finger.
9. Assemble the EPS bushing tool with the bolt through the washer, then pass the bolt through the receiver with the small opening facing the mount bushing support hole. Then place the slotted holder on the other side of the mount bushing (slotted side facing the mount bushing support hole).
10. Hold the receiver, and turn the bolt with a wrench to press the mount bushing into the mount bushing support hole. Continue turning the bolt until the new mount bushing lip protrudes from the other side of the support hole.
11. Remove the EPS tool, and confirm the mount bushing is centered.
^ If the mount bushing is centered, repeat steps through 11 for additional mount bushing replacement.
^ If the mount bushing is not centered, go to step 12.
12. To align the mount bushing in the opposite direction, assemble the EPS bushing tool with the bolt through the washer, then pass the bolt through the mount bushing support hole in the reverse direction. Place the slotted holder on the other side of the mount bushing (slotted side facing the mount bushing).
13. Hold the slotted holder, and turn the bolt with a wrench to press the mount bushing in the desired direction until it is centered.
