Carrier Bearings/VSS Drive Gear Replacement

Special Tool Required
^ Driver, 40 mm I.D.7746-0030100

1. Check the carrier bearings for wear and rough rotation. If they rotate smoothly and their rollers show no signs of wear, the bearings are OK.

2. Remove the carrier bearing (A) with a commercially available bearing puller (B) and bearing separator (C).

3. Remove the VSS drive gear.
4. Install the VSS drive gear by aligning the finger on the VSS drive gear with the grooves in the differential carrier.

5. Install the new bearings (A) with the special tool. Install each bearing on until it bottoms. There should be no clearance between the bearings and the carrier.

NOTE: Place the seal (B) part of the bearing to the outside of differential when installing the bearing.
