DTC 91

DTC 91: F-CAN Communication
1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs.
Are any DTCs indicated?
YES - Troubleshoot the PGM-FI DTCs, then recheck.
NO - Go to step 2.
2. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. On the HDS, select ABS TCS VSA, then DATA LIST. Check STEERING ANGLE.
Does STEERING ANGLE show correct value?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Go to step 8.
5. On the HDS, select ABS TCS VSA, then DATA LIST. Check YAW RATE S and LATERAL G SENSOR.
Do YAW RATE S and LATERAL G SENSOR show correct value?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Go to step 15.
6. Clear the DTCs using the HDS.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON (II).
Does the VSA indicator come on, and is DTC 91 indicated?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. If connections are good, replace the VSA modulator control unit.
NO - Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time.
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
9. Disconnect the steering angle sensor 5P connector.

10. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 2 and No. 4.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 11.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

12. Measure the voltage between steering angle sensor 5P terminal No. 5 connector and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Repair open or high resistance in the wire between No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box-and the steering angle sensor.
13. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

14. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the steering angle sensor.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
15. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
16. Disconnect the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector.

17. Check for continuity between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector. terminal No. 2 and No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 18.
NO - Repair open, in the wire between the yaw rate lateral acceleration sensor and the VSA modulator control unit.
18. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

19. Measure the voltage between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 20.
NO - Repair open or high resistance in the wire between No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor.
20. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

21. Check for continuity between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector. terminal No. 4 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the yaw rate lateral acceleration sensor and the VSA modulator control unit.
