Trim Removal / Installation - Pillar Areas

Special Tools Required
KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 *
* Available through the American Honda Tool and Equipment Program

A-pillar Trim - Driver's Side

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.




1. Remove the A-pillar trim (A).
1. Pull out the front door opening trim (B) as needed.
2. Pry the A-pillar cap (C) out while releasing the hooks (D) until it is stopped by the grommet (E).
3. Pull the trim back by hand to detach the clip.
4. Release the hooks on the grommet and pull the cap out. Discard the cap and grommet.




2. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Replace the clips with new ones.
- Do not reuse the A-pillar cap and grommet; always replace them.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim with a new one.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they have any of these types of damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitenings in the A-pillar trim (A)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitenings in the grommet and clip seating surfaces (B)
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Push the clip into place securely.

A-pillar Trim - Passenger's Side

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.




1. Remove the grab handle (A).
1. Using a trim tool, remove the caps (B).
2. Remove the screws.




2. Remove the A-pillar trim (A).
- Pull out the front door opening trim (B) as needed.
- Pull the trim back by hand to detach the clip.




3. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Replace the clips with new ones.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim with a new one.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they have any of these types of damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitenings in the A-pillar trim (A)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (C) in the trim
- Any deformations in the grab handle (D)
- Any deformations in the grab handle bracket
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Push the clips into place securely.

B-pillar Trim

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to vendor scratch the trim and panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.

1. Remove these items:
- Front door sill trim
- Rear door sill trim
- Front seat belt lower anchor bolt




2. Remove the 8-pillar lower trim (A).
1. Pull both upper edges of the trim outward to detach the clips.
2. While pulling both edges of the trim outward, pull out the trim.




3. Remove the grab handle (A).
1. Using a trim tool, remove the caps (B).
2. Remove the screws.

4. Remove the front seat belt upper anchor bolt.




5. Remove the B-pillar upper trim (A).
1. Pull out the front door opening trim (B) and rear door opening trim (C) as needed.
2. Pull the bottom of the trim back to detach the lower clip (D).
3. Pull the top of the trim out to detach the clip (E).
4. Lower the trim to release the upper two hooks (F) from the body, and disengage the top of the trim from the edge of the headliner (G).




6. Remove the bolts, then remove the grab handle bracket(A).







7. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Replace the clips with new ones.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim with a new one.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they have any of these types of damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitenings in the B-pillar upper trim (A)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar lower trim (C), and any breakages in the part (D) that fits into the B-pillar upper trim
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (E) in the B-pillar upper trim
- Any deformations in the grab handle (F)
- Any deformations in the grab handle bracket(G)
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Make sure the trim hooks are installed into the holes in the body securely.
- Push the clips into place securely.
- Apply medium strength type liquid thread lock to the front seat belt upper and lower anchor bolts before installation.
- Before installing the anchor bolts, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.

C-pillar Trim

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.

1. Remove the rear seat-back.




2. Remove the rear trim panel (A).
1. Remove the clips (B).
2. Detach the hooks (C) from the C-pillar trim on both sides.
3. Pull the panel up to detach the clips (D).
4. Pull the rear center seat belt (El out through the slit (F) in the panel.

3. Remove the rear seat belt upper anchor bolt.




4. Remove the C-pillar trim (A).
1. Pull out the rear door opening trim (B) as needed.
2. Pry the C-pillar cap (Clout while releasing the hooks (D) until it is stopped by the grommet (El).
3. Using a trim tool, release the hooks (F) from the rear seat side trim (G).
4. Pull out the trim to detach the clip.
5. Pull the rear seat belt (H) out through the slit (I) in the trim.
6. Release the hooks on the grommet and pull the cap out. Discard the cap and grommet.




5. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Replace the clips with new ones.
- Do not reuse the C-pillar cap and grommet; always replace them.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the C-pillar trim with a new one.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they are damaged:
- Any cracks, or press-whitenings in the C-pillar trim (A)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Any cracks, or press-whitenings in the grommet seating surface (C)
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Push the clip and hooks into place securely.
- Apply medium strength type liquid thread lock to the rear seat belt upper anchor bolts before installation.
- Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
