Left Tailgate Upper Latch Replacement
Left Tailgate Upper Latch ReplacementNOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.
1. Open the tailgate in drop-down mode.
2. Remove the tailgate trim panel.
3. Disconnect the left upper lock rod (A) and left upper sensor rod (B) from the latch synchronizer (C).
4. Detach the rod clips (D).
5. Remove the bolts (A) securing the left tailgate upper latch (B) using a T50 Torx bit, and remove the mounting nut (C), then remove the latch with the left upper lock rod (D) and left upper sensor rod (E).
6. Disconnect the left upper lock rod (A) and left upper sensor rod (B) from the left tailgate upper latch (C), and be careful not to fix them.
7. Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure each rod is connected securely.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the mounting nut before installation.
- Before securing the left tailgate upper latch (A), lightly loosen the bolts and nut. While holding the upper handle out, push the tailgate against the body to align the latch opening to the left upper striker (B) on the body. Tighten the bolts and nut, and recheck.
- Make sure the tailgate locks properly.
- Make sure the tailgate that is closed opens in drop-down mode by pulling on the upper handle.
- Make sure the lower handle doesn't function with the tailgate opened in drop-down mode.
- Make sure the tailgate swings smoothly. If necessary, do the tailgate position adjustment.
