Right Tailgate Lower Hinge-latch ReplacementNOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.
Removal/Installation
1. Swing the tailgate open.
2. Remove the tailgate trim panel.
3. Disconnect the right lower lock rod (A), and right lower sensor rod (B) from the latch synchronizer (C).
4. Remove the bolts securing the right tailgate lower hinge-latch (A) using a T50 Torx bit, then remove the hinge-latch with the right lower lock rod (B) and right lower sensor rod (C).
5. Install the lower hinge-latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure each rod is connected securely.
- Before securing the right tailgate lower hinge (A), lightly loosen the bolts. While holding the lower handle out, push the tailgate against the body to align the right lower latch opening to the right lower striker (B) on the body. Tighten the bolts, and recheck.
- Do the tailgate position adjustment.
- Make sure the tailgate locks properly.
- Make sure the tailgate that is closed opens in swing mode by pulling on the lower handle.
- Make sure the upper handle doesn't function with the tailgate opened in swing mode.
- Make sure the tailgate moves smoothly up or down in down-drop mode.
Disassembly/Reassembly
1. Disassemble the right tailgate lower hinge-latch (A). Take care not to kink the cable (B).
1. Pry off the spring (C) from top of the lower hinge with a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape.
2. Remove the snap ring (D), washer (E), and pulley (F).
3. Rotate the pin receiver (G) down, and disconnect the cable from it.
4. Pull the cable out of the spring.
2. Reassemble the lower hinge-latch in the reverse order of disassembly, and make sure the cable is routed properly and connected securely.
