DIAGNOSIS
1. Open the tailgate with the upper handle, then close it hard. Open the tailgate in swing mode:
^ If the tailgate opens in swing mode, the operation is OK.
^ If the tailgate does not open in swing mode, go to step 2 to inspect the synchronizer timing mark.
2. Open the tailgate with the upper handle, and remove the tailgate top trim:
^ Remove the four screws.
^ Using a rubber mallet, slide the top trim to the right, and remove it.
3. Remove the clips from the tailgate, and reinstall them onto the tailgate top trim with the tab facing to the rear of the vehicle. Replace any damaged clips.
4. Using a Torx T-40 bit, remove the seven tailgate trim panel bolts. Place any loose rubber grommets back onto the bolts.
5. Using a screwdriver, latch the left upper tailgate latch.
6. Check the alignment of the white sensor (left upper tailgate latch) to the inner timing mark on the black arm. The middle of the sensor should be within +4.3 mm/ -4.4 mm of the mark.
^ If the sensor and mark are not within specification, go to the REPAIR PROCEDURE.
^ If the sensor and mark are within specification, disregard this bulletin, and continue with normal troubleshooting.
