IMA System Indicator Circuit Troubleshooting

IMA System Indicator Circuit Troubleshooting

NOTE: If the IMA system indicator stays on or never comes on, do this troubleshooting (if no DTCs are set).

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), wait 2 seconds, and watch the IMA system indicator.

Does the IMA system indicator come on and stay on?

YES - Go to step 2.

NO - The IMA system indicator circuit is OK.

2. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?

YES - Go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting.

NO - Go to step 3.

3. Do the gauge self-diagnostic function.

Does the IMA system indicator flash?

YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Substitute a known-good gauge control module, and recheck. If the IMA system indicator circuit is OK, replace the original gauge control module.

4. Check the 12 V battery terminal connections.

Are the connections OK?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Repair the connections, or replace the 12 V battery.

5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
6. Turn the battery module switch OFF.
7. Remove the IPU lid.
8. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).
9. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

10. Measure voltage between body ground and BCM module connector terminal A29.

Is there 12 V battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 11.

NO
- Repair open or short in the wire between the No. 10 METER (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the BCM module (A29).
- Replace the No. 10 METER (7.5 A) fuse.

11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
12. Reconnect BCM module connector A (40P).
13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

14. Measure voltage between body ground and BCM module connector terminals A2 and A3.

Is there 12 V battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 15.

NO - Go to step 17.

15. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).

16. Check for continuity between body ground and BCM module connector terminals A8, A9, A22, and A23 individually.

Is there continuity?

YES - Update the BCM module if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good BCM module, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good BCM module, replace the original BCM module.

NO - Repair open in the wire between G902 and the BCM module (A8, A9), or between G102 and the BCM module (A22, A23).

17. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

18. Remove MCM relay 1 (A).
19. Check MCM relay 1.

Is the relay OK?

YES - Go to step 20.

NO - Replace MCM relay 1.

20. Measure voltage between body ground and MCM relay 1 4P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4 individually.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 21.

NO
- Repair open or short to ground in the wire between the +B IMA (7.5 A) and MCM relay 1. Also replace the +B IMA (7.5 A) fuse.
- Repair short to ground in the wire between MCM relay 1, MCM relay 2, and the BCM module (A2, A3, A11).

21. Reinstall MCM relay 1.
22. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).
23. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

24. Measure voltage between body ground and BCM module connector terminal All.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 25.

NO - Repair open in the wire between MCM relay 1 and the BCM module (A11).

25. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

26. Check for continuity between BCM module connector terminal A2 and MCM relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 1.

Is there continuity?

YES - Update the BCM module if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good BCM module, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good BCM module, replace the original BCM module.

NO - Repair open in the wire between MCM relay 1 and the BCM module (A2).
