DIAGNOSIS

1. Drive the vehicle over bumps or rough roads, and listen for a squeak or rattle coming from under the seat.

2. Park the vehicle. With the palm of your hand, hit the top of the seat at the front, the back, and either side. Listen for a squeak or rattle coming from under the seat.

^ If you hear a squeak or rattle when driving the vehicle or hitting the seat, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If you don't hear a squeak or rattle under these conditions, this bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system, then write down the audio presets.

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait for 3 minutes before starting work.

3. Remove the front passenger's seat:

^ Refer to page 20-100 of the 2007 Element Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword SEAT, and select Front Seat Removal/Installation from the list.

4. Using a TORX T27 bit, remove the six tamper-resistant TORX bolts that attach the seat tracks to the front passenger's weight sensors.

*5. Cut two 30 mm x 50 mm pieces of felt (cut a 10 mm by 20 mm tab in the felt as shown). Apply the felt to each seat track as shown.*

6. Attach the seat tracks to the seat weight sensors using new TORX bolts. Torque the two front bolts to 14 N.m (10 lb-ft), and torque the four rear bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).

7. Install the seat in the reverse order of removal. Torque the anchor bolts to 55 N.m (41 lb.ft).

NOTE:
If the side trim was not broken during removal, reinstall it with a new clip.

8. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

9. Do the ODS unit operation check. If needed, calibrate the ODS unit:

^ Refer to the Restraints section of the 2007 Element Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword ODS, and select ODS Unit Operation Check, or ODS Calibration from the list.

10. Confirm proper operation of the SRS system by turning the ignition switch to ON (II). The SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds, and then go off.

11. Enter the radio anti-theft code for the audio system, and the audio presets. Set the clock.
