Electrical Problems and B-CAN DTCs After Exposure to Water/Water Leaks
SYMPTOM
These multiple electrical problems and/or DTCs can occur intermittently and may occur only in wet conditions:
- Power door locks do not work from the driver's door switch panel.
- Keyless entry does not work.
- Front windshield wipers operate at low speed only.
- Rear windshield wiper does not work.
- Headlights operate in low beam only.
- DTC B1005: MICU lost communication with relay control module.
- DTC B1006: MICU lost communication with door multiplex control unit (door lock switch message).
- DTC B1007: MICU lost communication with combination switch control unit (headlight switch message).
- DTC B1008: MICU lost communication with gauge control module (A/T message).
- DTC B1012: MICU lost communication with MICU-rear junction box (RJU message).
- B-CAN communication is interrupted.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Water enters connector C701 behind the left rear side trim panel.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Seal the power sliding door rear pulley mount, reposition the foam block, dry connector C701, and apply dielectric grease to the connector.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
This bulletin applies only if you see multiple symptoms or if multiple symptoms are described by the customer. If only one symptom is present or described by the customer, refer to the appropriate Odyssey service manual for normal troubleshooting.
1. Remove the left rear side area trim:
- Refer to the 2005-06 Odyssey Service Manual, or
- Refer to 2007-09 Odyssey Service Manual, or
- Online, enter keyword TRIM, and select Interior Trim Removal/Installation-Rear Side Area from the list.
2. If equipped, remove the power sliding door control unit (two screws) to access connector C701 and to view the panel for water leaks.
3. With the help of an assistant, use a water hose to spray the outside of the vehicle around the left rear window and the center rail cover.
- If only a small amount of water is leaking in, go to step 9.
- If a large amount of water is leaking in, go to step 4.
4. Remove the left side taillight:
- Refer to 2005-06 Odyssey Service Manual, or
- Refer to 2007-09 Odyssey Service Manual, or
- Online, enter keyword TAILLIGHT, and select Taillight Replacement from the list.
5. Remove the center rail cover (two self-tapping screws).
6. From inside the vehicle, remove the three nuts securing the rear pulley mount, then pull the rear pulley mount away from the body.
7. Clean and dry the rear pulley mounting gasket, then apply 3M Super Silicone Sealer to the rear pulley mount, where the gasket has separated.
8. Reinstall the rear pulley mount, and torque its three nuts to 7.2 lb-ft (9.8 N.m).
9. Locate and remove the foam block below the control unit. Rotate and reinstall the foam block so its original top side is now against the body.
NOTE:
Make sure the foam block is angled down toward the front of the vehicle and that there is a minimum clearance of 25 mm (1 in.) between the foam block and connector C701.
10. Locate and remove connector C701 from the panel. Disconnect the connector.
NOTE:
On Touring models, there are two connectors piggybacked in this location.
11. Using an air gun, blow the connector halves dry. Then, pack the connectors with dielectric grease.
12. Reconnect the connector, then reinstall all removed parts.
