REVISION SUMMARY

* Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, a flat rate time was changed.*

SYMPTOM

The MIL comes on with DTC P0300 (random cylinder misfire detected and at least one of DTCs P0301 through P0306 (No.1 through 6 cylinder misfire detected).

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PGM-FI software misinterprets inputs, causing the DTCs to set.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Adjust the valve clearance, and update the PGM-FI software.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

HDS Software Version:
2.020.018 or later.

HDS Control Module (CM) Update:
Database Update 27-NOV-2009 or later.

NOTE:
To avoid an incorrect repair that would not be covered under warranty, use the software version listed above or a later version.





The updated PGM-FI software program IDs and P/Ns are listed. If the HDS is loaded with the latest software, and it displays No Update Needed during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

DIAGNOSIS

Inspect the Freeze Data or On Board Snapshot data using the HDS for DTCs P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, or P0306.

Is the engine coolant temperature between 14 degrees F and 140 degrees F (-10 degrees C and 60 degrees C)?

Yes - Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

No - This service bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Adjust the valve clearance to the middle of the specification.

^ Refer to page 6-8 of the 2006-2008 Pilot Service Manual, or
Online, enter keywords VALVE CLEAR, and select Valve Clearance Adjustment (J35Z1 engine) from the list.

NOTE:
Make sure the cylinder head temperature is below 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) before doing the valve adjustment.

2. Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/ Modules.

3. Select CRANK PATTERN in the ADJUSTMENT MENU with the HDS.

4. Select CRANK (CKP) PATTERN CLEAR and follow the screen prompts.

5. Select CRANK (CKP) PATTERN LEARNING with the HDS, and follow the screen prompts.*
