Engine RemovalSpecial Tools Required
^ 2008 V6 Attachment arm SIL02C000033 *
^ Front subframe adapter VSB02C000016 *
^ Engine hanger balance bar VSB02C000019 *
^ Engine support hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256 *

NOTE:
^ Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
^ To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
^ Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
1. Remove the hood support rod, then use it as shown to prop the hood in the wide-open position.
2. Remove the strut brace.
3. Relieve the fuel pressure.
4. Remove the engine cover.
5. Do the battery removal procedure.
6. Remove the splash separator.
7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
8. Remove the harness clamp (A) and the bolt (B), then remove the battery base (C).
9. Disconnect the battery cables (A) from the under hood fuse/relay box.
10. Remove the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) cover (A), then remove the three bolts (B) securing the ECM/PCM.
11. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connectors (A), the engine wire harness connector (B), the harness clamps (C), and the bracket (D).
12. M/T model: Disconnect the engine wire harness connector (E).
13. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose (B).
14. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B).
15. Remove the drive belt.
16. Remove the power steering (P/S) pump outlet line (A) and the P/S pump inlet line (B) from the P/S pump and remove the P/S hose bracket (C), then plug the outlet line and the P/S pump.
17. Remove the steering wheel.
18. Remove the steering joint cover (A).
19. Make a reference mark (B) across the steering joint and the steering gearbox pinion shaft. Remove the steering joint bolt (C), and loosen the steering joint bolt (D), then disconnect the steering joint from the steering gearbox pinion shaft (E).
20. M/T model: Remove the three bolts securing the shift cable holder, then remove the shift cable and the select cable. Do not bend the cables excessively.
21. M/T model: Remove the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch line bracket mounting nut. Do not operate the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder has been removed.
22. A/T model: Remove the shift cable. Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
23. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
24. Remove the front wheels.
25. Remove the splash shield.
26. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, and drain the engine coolant.
27. Drain the engine oil.
28. Drain the transmission fluid.
29. Remove exhaust pipe A.
30. Remove the damper fork.
31. Separate the tie-rod end ball joints from the knuckles.
32. Separate the knuckles from the lower arms.
33. Remove the driveshafts. Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
34. Remove the P/S hose (A), then plug the line and the hose.
35. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch connector (A).
36. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
37. Remove the radiator.
38. Disconnect the heater hoses.
39. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the A/C compressor (B) without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
40. A/T model: Remove the ATF cooler hoses from the transmission, then plug the ATF cooler hoses and the lines.
41. Remove the harness holder and the connectors from the front cylinder head.
42. Remove the connector bracket from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.
43. Remove the harness clamp bracket from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033).
44. Lift and support the engine with the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and the bolt (10 x 1.25 mm) (C). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (D) to the rear cylinder head and the bolt (8 x 1.25 mm) (E), then attach the rear arm (F) to the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
45. M/T model: Remove the front engine mount stop (A), then remove the front engine mount bolt (B) and the vacuum hose (C).
46. A/T model: Remove the front engine mount stop (A), then remove the front engine mount bolt (B) and disconnect the active control engine mount (ACM) connector (C) and remove the connector (D) from the front subframe.
47. M/T model: Support the transmission with a jack and a wood block under the transmission. Remove the rear engine mount bolt (A), then remove the mount-to-subframe bolts (B).
48. A/T model: Remove the rear engine mount stop (A), then remove the rear engine mount bolt (B) and disconnect the ACM connector (C).
49. A/T model: Remove the harness clamp (A).
50. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
51. Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by hanging the belt (A) over the front of the subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
52. Raise the jack and lineup the slots in the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
53. Remove the subframe middle mount.
54. Remove the nuts securing the lower transmission mount.
55. Remove the four 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (A) securing the subframe stiffeners (B), the four subframe mounting bolts (C), and the stiffeners, then lower the front subframe (D).
56. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
57. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hook (B) and the transmission hook (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist, and remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger balance bar.
58. A/T model: Remove the ground cable.
59. Remove the mounting bolts from the upper half of the side engine mount bracket.
60. M/T model: Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts.
NOTE: Do not remove the TORX bolt (B) from the upper transmission mount. If the TORX bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly.
61. A/T model: Remove the bracket (A), then remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts and nut.
62. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of vacuum hoses, fuel and coolant hoses, and electrical wiring.
63. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (6 in.). Check once again that all hoses and electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it.
64. Disconnected the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.
65. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.
