Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators: Description and Operation
Gauges and IndicatorsHow the Circuit Works
The gauges and indicators are part of the multiplex integrated control system. System-specific conditions control some indicators. Information for these indicators is communicated from control unit to control unit across multiplex communication lines.
The multiplex integrated control system communicates with the gauge control module to control the following indicators:
- ABS Indicator
- Charging System Indicator
- Cruise Control Indicators
- Door Open Indicator
- High Beam Indicator
- Immobilizer System Indicator
- Lights On Indicator
- Low Oil Pressure Indicator
- Maintenance Required Indicator
- MIL Indicator
- Seat Belt Reminder Indicator
- Security Indicator
- Side Airbag Cut-off Indicator
- SRS Indicators
- VSA Activation Indicator
- VSA Indicator
Refer to each individual system for more information.
Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module controls the engine coolant temperature gauge. The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module receives engine coolant temperature information from the PCM through the fast controller area network (F-CAN) data lines.
Fuel Gauge and Low Fuel Indicator
Warning: Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Keep open flame away from the work area. Drain fuel only into an approved container.
The fuel gauge and low fuel indicator are controlled by the power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module. The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module displays fuel level based on the resistance of the fuel gauge sending unit. When it is determined that the fuel level is low, the low fuel level indicator activates.
Speedometer
The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module controls the speedometer. The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module receives vehicle speed information from the PCM through the fast controller area network (F-CAN) data lines.
Tachometer
The tachometer is controlled by the power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module (tach). The power supply circuit/controller area network controller in the gauge control module (tach) receives vehicle speed information from the PCM through the fast controller area network (F-CAN) data lines. The power supply circuit/controller area network controller controls the tachometer display.
