VSA System
DTC 12, 14, 16, 18: Wheel Speed Sensor (Electrical Noise/Intermittent Interruption)NOTE: If the ABS indicator and VSA indicator come on because of electrical noise, the indicators go off when you test-drive the vehicle at 19 mph (30 km/h).
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Check the appropriate wheel speed sensor and magnetic encoder:
^ Front: Remove the driveshaft outboard joint form the appropriate front hub.
^ Rear: Remove the appropriate hub bearing unit.
Are they OK?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Reinstall or replace the appropriate wheel speed sensor or magnetic encoder.
3. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector.
4. Check for continuity between the appropriate wheel speed sensor GND terminal and other wheel speed sensor GND terminals of the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wires between the appropriate wheel speed sensor and the other wheel speed sensor.
NO - Go to step 5.
5. Substitute a known-good, wheel speed sensor for the appropriate wheel speed sensor (see table).
6. Reconnect all of the disconnected connectors.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
8. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then disconnect the HDS.
10. Test-drive the vehicle at 19 mph (30 km/h) or more.
11. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 12, 14, 16, or 18 indicated?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Replace the original wheel speed sensor.
