Symptom Troubleshooting

Low oil pressure indicator does not come on with the ignition switch in ON (II)

'08 model J35A7 engine

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.

Is gauge control module OK?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Replace the gauge control module.

3. Completely opens the throttle.
4. Check the MAP SENSOR and BARO SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS).

MAP SENSOR-BARO SENSOR = "A"

Is "A" 19.9 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2, 2.89 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Replace the powertrain control module (PCM).

5. Check the rocker arm OIL PRESSURE SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is it the 19.0 kPa (0.19 kgf/cm2, 2.76 psi) or less?

YES - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.

NO - Replace the rocker arm oil pressure sensor.

Low oil pressure indicator stays on

'08 model J35A7 engine

1. Check the engine oil.

Engine oil is normal?

YES - Go to step 2.

NO - Make the engine oil normal then recheck.

2. Remove the rocker arm oil pressure sensor (A), then install the special tools with new O-rings as shown, then install the rocker arm oil pressure sensor in the pressure gauge adapter (B).

3. Warm up the engine.
4. With the engine idling check the oil pressure gauge value.
70 kPa (0.7 kgf/cm2, 10 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Check the following items:

^ Blocking of oil filter.
^ Blocking of oil screen.
^ Check the oil pump.

5. Check the rocker arm oil pressure sensor in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is it the 19.0 kPa (0.19 kgf/cm2, 2.76 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 10.

NO - Go to step 6.

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
8. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C (49P).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

Does the low oil pressure indicator go off ?

YES - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with-a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.

NO - Replace the gauge control module.

10. Check the MAP SENSOR and BARO SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS).

MAP SENSOR-BARO SENSOR = "A"

Is "A" 19.9 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2, 2.89 psi) or less?

YES - Replace the rocker arm oil pressure sensor.

NO - Replace the PCM.
