DIAGNOSIS

1. Do a visual inspection of the A/C system. Did you find any obvious problems?

Yes - Repair the A/C system as needed, then go to step 2.

No - Go to step 2.

2. Using a leak detector (TIFZX-1 or equivalent), probe the driver's side center console rear vent. If needed, turn on the rear blower to its low setting.

Did you find a leak?

Yes - Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

No - This service bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
This procedure is in an outline form that you can also use as a checklist for the repair. If you need more details, bookmark the following procedures in the 2006-2008 Pilot Service Manual, or view them online:

^ Refrigerant Recovery

^ Front Seat Removal/Installation

^ Center Console Removal/Installation

^ Rear Heater-A/C Unit Component Replacement

^ System Evacuation

^ A/C Refrigerant Oil Replacement

^ System Charging

^ A/C System Test

1. Start the engine, and let it idle for 5 minutes with the A/C on.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then use a recovery/recycling/recharging station (Robinair R0B34788 or equivalent) to recover the refrigerant from the A/C system.

3. Remove the driver's seat.

4. Remove the center console.

5. Remove pipe assembly A from the evaporator:

^ Remove the pipe clamp (one screw).

^ Remove the two bolts attaching the pipe assembly to the evaporator.

^ Remove the nut from the suction line side of the pipe assembly.

^ Remove the insulation material from the expansion valve.

^ Remove the expansion valve from the suction line using two wrenches-one to hold the valve nut, and one to turn the line nut.

^ Remove pipe assembly A along with its insulation material.

6. Remove the expansion valve from pipe assembly A using two wrenches-one to hold the valve nut, and one to turn the pipe nut. The expansion valve will be reused.

7. Install new pipe assembly A:

NOTE:
Lubricate the new 0-rings with refrigerant oil before you install them.

^ Connect the pipe assembly to the expansion valve using a new 1/2-inch 0-ring. Torque the pipe nut to 31 N.m (28 lb-ft).

^ Wrap the pipe assembly and the expansion valve with new insulation material.

^ Connect the expansion valve to the suction line using a new 1/2-inch 0-ring. Torque the suction line nut to 31 N~m (28 lb-ft).

Connect the pipe assembly to the suction line using a new 5/8-inch 0-ring. Torque the nut to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).

^ Connect the pipe assembly to the evaporator using a new 1/2-inch 0-ring and a new 5/8-inch 0-ring. Torque the pipe assembly bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).

^ Reattach the pipe clamp (one screw).

8. Recharge the A/C system with the recovery/ recycling/recharging station. Recharging includes these substeps:

^ Evacuate the system.

^ Add 10 mL (1/3 oz) of DENSO ND-OIL 8 for the new pipe assembly.

^ Add 700 to 750 g of refrigerant.

^ Check for refrigerant leaks.

^ Check the A/C performance.

9. Reinstall the center console, and replace any damaged trim clips.

10. Reinstall the driver's seat, and torque the four seat bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb-ft). Replace any damaged trim clips.
