SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 81-71, 81-78

DTC 81-71, 81-78:

ODS Unit Not Calibrated ('08-10 models)

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

1. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

3. Read the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DTC 81-71 or 81-78 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�

4. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

5. Do the front passenger's weight sensor initialization. Programming and Relearning

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds, and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES -

The system is OK.�

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds, and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES -

The system is OK.�

NO -

Replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�
