Safety Recall: Brake Hoses Rub On the Front Caliper Upper Pin Bolts

BACKGROUND

During vehicle assembly, incorrect front brake hoses were installed on about 22 vehicles. These brake hoses can rub on the front brake caliper upper pin bolts. This could eventually cause a brake fluid leak and a loss of front braking.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

Within the VIN range of 424 potentially affected vehicles, only about 22 vehicles were fitted with incorrect front brake hoses. To verify vehicle eligibility, you must do a VIN status inquiry.

To see if a vehicle has already had this campaign completed, check for a punch mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN.

Vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new vehicle inventory. These vehicles must be inspected and, if needed, repaired before they are sold or leased. To see if a vehicle is affected by this campaign, do a VIN status inquiry before selling or leasing it.

Should an unrepaired vehicle cause an injury or damage because of the recalled item, the dealership will be solely responsible to the damaged party, and will be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Less than five potentially affected vehicles have been sold. These vehicle owners will be called by American Honda. Because of the low number of sold vehicles, a customer notification letter is not being issued.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Inspect the front brake hoses and, if needed, install new brake hoses.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Using a flashlight, inspect both front brake hoses at the brake calipers:





^ Good hoses have a bend in the tubing at the caliper end, along with clearance between the hose and the caliper upper pin bolt. If both hoses are OK, go to step 2.





^ Incorrect hoses have straight tubing at the caliper end, and little or no clearance between the hose and the caliper upper pin bolt. If either hose is incorrect, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.





2. Center-punch a completion mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN as shown above.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Replace the front brake hose(s):

^ Refer to page 19-45 of the 2007-2009 Odyssey Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword HOSE, and select Brake Hose Replacement from the list.

2. Center-punch a completion mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN as shown above.
