VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 88

DTC 88: Difference in Wheel Speed

NOTE: After setting the front toe always perform the steering angle sensor writing procedure.

1. Check all four tires.

Are all four tires the correct size and properly inflated?
YES - Go to step 2.

NO - Install the correct tires or set the tires to the correct pressure, and retest by test-driving.


2. Check all wheel speed sensors. Service and Repair

Are the wheel speed sensors installed correctly and in good condition?
YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Reinstall or replace the wheel speed sensor(s), Service and Repair and recheck by test-driving.


3. Check all magnetic encoders on the wheel bearings. Testing and Inspection

Are they installed correctly and in good condition?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Replace the front wheel bearing, Front Knuckle/Hub/Wheel Bearing Replacement or rear wheel bearing, Rear Knuckle/Hub/Wheel Bearing Replacement and recheck by test-driving.


4. Swap the wheels and tires with a known-good vehicle.

5. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

6. Test-drive the vehicle at 10 mph (15 km/h) or more.

7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Does the VSA and ABS indicator come on, and is DTC 21 indicated?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA control unit 46P connector. If the connections are good, replace the VSA modulator-control unit. Service and Repair

NO - Install the original wheels and tires onto the vehicle and recheck. If the DTC 21 is indicated again, replace the problem tires.
