Front Seat-back Cover Replacement

Special Tools Required

- KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014*
Trim pad remover, Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Technician Safety Information before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Do not repair any tears or frayed spots of the seat-back cover. If necessary, replace the seat-back cover.

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.

- Take care not to tear or damage the seat covers.

- On the passenger's seat, do not touch the OPDS sensor in the seat-back pad, and keep it away from oil. Oil can corrode the sensor causing it to fail.

- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove the front seat. Front Seat Removal/Installation

2. From under the seat cushion, release the elastic straps (A) from the seat cushion frame springs (B), then pull the undercover (C) of the seat-back cover back.

3. From under the seat cushion, detach the side airbag connector clip (A) and the harness clips (B). On the driver's 10-way power seat, remove the wire tie (C).

4. Insert a trim pad remover between the bottom of the back panel (A) and the seat frame until it squarely engages one of the clips. Gently pry on the clip until it detaches from the seat frame. Repeat for the other clip. Gently pull the back panel back to release the hooks (B), then pull the panel down to release the hooks (C).

NOTE:

- Detach the clips and the hooks in the numbered sequence as shown.

- Take care not to damage the seat-back panel or the clip mounting pads.





5. Release the hook strips (A), then loosen the seat-back cover (B).






6. Pull the side airbag harness (A) out through the harness hole (B) in the seat-back cover (C). The driver's seat is shown; the passenger's seat is symmetrical.






7. Release airbag wire A and airbag wire B from the seat-back frame (C).






8. Except driver's manual height adjustable seat: Remove the ODS unit cover (A) (passenger's seat) or the lumbar support motor cover (B) (driver's 10-way power seat).
-1 Turn over the seat-back cover (C) and the pad (D) as needed.
Release the cover from the lower hooks (E).
-3 Pull the cover upward to release it from the upper hook (F).

9. Passenger's seat: Disconnect the ODS unit harness connector (G) and the OPDS sensor connectors (H).
Driver's 10-way power seat: Disconnect the seat wire harness connector (I), and detach the harness clip (J).

10. Passenger's seat: Detach the harness clips (A) fastening the OPDS sensor harnesses (B), and release the wire tie (C).






11. Passenger's seat: Detach the harness clips (A), then pull the ODS unit harness (B) in through a hole in the seat frame, and pull it out through the harness hole (C) in the seat-back cover (D).






12. Driver's 10-way power seat: Disconnect the seat-back heater connector (A) (for some models) and the recline motor connector (B), and detach the harness clips (C), then pull the seat wire harness (D) out through the harness hole (E) in the seat-back cover (F).






13. Pinch the tabs on the ends of the head restraint guides (A), and remove them from the seat-back.






14. Remove the seat-back cover/pad (A) from the seat-back frame (B).






15. Pull back the edge of the seat-back cover all the way around, and release the upholstery rings (A), then remove the seat-back cover (B).






16. Remove airbag attachment wire A from the inside reinforcing cloth (C), and airbag attachment wire B from the outside reinforcing cloths (D).






17. Install the cover in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Reinitialize the ODS unit. Programming and Relearning

- Replace the back panel clip with new ones.

- To prevent wrinkles when installing a seat-back cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the upholstery rings, hooks, and hook strips.

- Using commercially available upholstery ring pliers (C), replace all of the upholstery rings you removed with new ones (D).

- Reinstall airbag attachment wires A and B securely.

- Use only original Honda replacement seat-back covers.

- Make sure the side airbag harness, the seat wire harness (driver's 10-way power seat), and the ODS unit harness (passenger's seat) are routed properly.
