Rear Seat Leg Does Not Fold Flat

(Supersedes 10-068, dated October 29, 2010, to revise the information marked by the black bars and asterisks)

*REVISION SUMMARY

^ Under CORRECTIVE ACTION and REPAIR PROCEDURE, both rear cable guides must be replaced with new zinc cable guides.

^ Under PARTS INFORMATION, the rear seat cushion cable guide part number was changed.

^ Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, the Operation Number and Flat Rate Time were changed.*

SYMPTOM

The rear seat leg(s) do not fold flat against the seat cushion when the cushion is raised.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The rear seat cushion cable guide(s) are broken.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

*Replace both rear seat cushion cable guides and the seat pivot covers.*

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:

^ Left rear under-seat trim panel removal/installation.

^ Right rear under-seat trim panel removal/installation.

^ Lower middle rear seat mount cover removal/installation.

^ Rear seat mount covers (both sides) removal/installation.

1. Remove the upper middle rear seat mount cover:

^ Fold the rear seat belt buckle and the center seat belt buckle down, and hold them in place.





^ Detach the clips, release the hooks, then remove the rear seat mount cover.

2. Remove the caps from both sides of the rear trim panel.

3. Remove the center seat belt lower anchor.

4. Pull out the center seat belt through the gap between the rear seat-back and the rear seat cushion.





5. Remove the bolts securing the rear seat-back.





6. Lift the seat-back up to release the hooks from the holes on the body, then remove the seat-back.

7. Remove the screw from the back of the recline outer cover. Release the tabs and the hooks, then remove the recline outer cover.





NOTE:
The left seat cushion is shown, the right seat cushion is similar.





8. Remove the screw, then remove the recline inner cover.





9. Pull back the rear seat cushion under-cover trim to release the hooks, then remove it.

10. Remove the rear seat cushion under-cover:

^ Using a plastic trim tool, remove the caps.

^ Remove the screws.





^ Release the hook strips of the seat cushion cover from the under-cover.





12. Release the hooks securing the seat cushion cover.





13. Release the hooks, and pull back the seat cushion cover.





14. Release the tabs and the clip, then remove the pivot outer cover and the pivot inner cover.

15. Lower the rear seat cushion down.





16. Remove the nut securing the cable guide.

17. Carefully slide the cable guide out, and remove it from the pivot cable.

18. Install the new cable guide, and reinstall the paper washers and the nut. Torque the nut to 9.8 N.m (7.0 lb-ft).

19. Repeat steps 12 thru 18 for the other cable guide.

20. Install the new pivot covers, then attach the hooks on the seat cushions, and reinstall the cushion handles.

21. Reinstall the seat cushion under-covers and the recline covers.

22. Reinstall the rear seat-back, and tighten the bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.0 lb-ft).

23. Reinstall the rear seat mount cover, the lower middle seat mount cover, and the right and left rear under-seat trim panels.
