Valve Stem-to-Guide Clearance Inspection

Removal

1. Radiator Cap

1. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.

2. Vehicle Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.

3. Right Front Wheel





1. Remove the right front wheel.

4. Front Splash Shield





1. Remove the bolts (A), then remove the clips (B) that secure the front inner fender and the front splash shield (C) to the body.

2. From under the front bumper (D), remove the clips (E).

3. From under the body, remove the clips (F), then pull out the front splash shield.

5. Engine Oil - Replacement (Without Front Splash Shield)





1. Remove the drain bolt (A), and drain the engine oil.

2. Reinstall the drain bolt with a new washer (B) and torque to specification.

6. Radiator Coolant - Replacement





1. Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.

7. Fuel Fill Cap

1. Remove the fuel fill cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.

8. HDS DLC - Connection





1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

9. Fuel Pump Off

1. From the INSPECTION MENU of the HDS, select Fuel Pump OFF, then start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.

NOTE:
* Do not allow the engine to idle above 1,000 rpm or the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump.
* Pending or Confirmed DTC may be set during this procedure. Check for DTCs, and clear them as needed.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

10. Battery Terminal - Disconnection





1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery.

NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.

3. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.

11. Both Windshield Wiper Arm Assemblies





NOTE: Set the wiper arms to the auto-stop position before removal.

1. Remove the caps (A) and nuts (B).

2. Remove the wiper arms (C).

12. Front Fender Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clips (A, B).

2. Pull up the front fender trim (C) by hand to detach the clips (D), then remove the trim.

13. Hood Wide - Open Position





1. Open the hood, and secure it with hood prop bar (A) in the wide-open position .

NOTE: Make sure the hood prop bar is attached to the wide-open hood position (B) and support bracket (C) correctly as shown.

14. Cowl Top Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clip (A).

2. Pull out the hood rear seal (B).

3. Detach the hooks, and remove the cowl top cover (C).

15. Side Cowl Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Detach the hook (A) at the inside of the cowl cover (B).

2. Release the hooks (C) from the cowl cover and the front fender (D), then remove the side cowl cover (E).

3. Right side; Detach the windshield washer tube.

16. Center Cowl Cover





1. Remove the clips (A).

2. Carefully pull the center cowl cover (B) forward to release the hooks (C) from the windshield and the body.

17. Under-Cowl Panel





1. Disconnect the connector (A).

2. Remove the bolts and the nuts, then remove the under-cowl panel (B).

3. Remove the wire harness (C) from the under-cowl panel.

18. Drive Belt





1. Move the auto-tensioner (A) using the belt tension release tool in the direction of the arrow to relieve tension from the drive belt, then remove the drive belt.

19. Fuel Pressure - Relieving





NOTE: Before you work on the fuel lines and fittings, read the Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Precautions. Service Precautions

1. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A).

2. Check the fuel quick-connect fitting for dirt, and clean it if needed.





3. Place a rag or shop towel (A) over the quick-connect fitting.





4. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting: Hold the connector (A) with one hand, and squeeze the retainer tabs (B) with the other hand to release them from the locking tabs (C). Pull the connector off.

NOTE:
* Be careful not to damage the line (D) or other parts.
* Do not use tools.
* If the connector does not move, keep the retainer tabs pressed down, and alternately pull and push the connector until it comes off easily.
* Do not remove the retainer from the line; once removed, the retainer must be replaced with a new one.

20. Air Cleaner Assembly





1. Disconnect the MAF sensor/IAT sensor connector (A).

2. Remove the harness clamp (B).

3. Disconnect the intake air duct (C) and the intake air pipe (D).

4. Remove the air cleaner (E).

21. Intake Air Duct





1. Remove the intake air duct.

22. Throttle Body - Move





1. Disconnect the EVAP canister hose (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose (B).





2. Disconnect the connector (A).

3. Remove the harness clamp bracket (B).





4. Move the throttle body without disconnecting the hoses.

23. Intake Manifold Assembly





1. Remove the intake manifold lower bracket.





2. Remove the intake manifold (A).





3. Disconnect the PCV hose (A).

24. Engine Wire Harness Holder - Move





1. Disconnect the injector connectors and the engine ground terminals.

2. Move the engine wire harness holder (A).
