Engine Removal and Installation

Installation

1. Engine Installation

1. Install the side engine mount bracket, the lower torque rod bracket, front engine mount, and tighten the new bolts to the specified torque.





2. Chain Hoist





1. Attach the universal lifting eyelet to the threaded hole (A) on the auto-tensioner.





2. Lower the vehicle, attach the chain hoist with the engine hanger stay to the universal lifting eyelet (A) and the transmission hanger bracket (P/N 21232-RCT-A00) (B).

3. Lift the engine/transmission in the vehicle.

NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.

3. Engine Support Hanger





1. Install the universal lifting eyelet to the special nut (A) with a spacer (B) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (C).

NOTE: Select a spacer that is long enough that the universal lifting eyelet does not interfere with the harness holder (D).





2. Install the engine support hanger as shown.

3. Attach the hook to the slotted hole in the universal lifting eyelet.

4. Tighten the wing nut (A) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield.

4. Side Engine Mount - Reconnection





1. Loosely install the new side engine mount mounting bolt and nut.

5. Chain Hoist





1. Remove the chain hoist.

2. Remove the universal lifting eyelet.





3. Remove the transmission hanger bracket (P/N 21232-RCT-A00) (A) and the washer (B), then install the stud bolt (C) on the transmission.

6. Transmission Mount Bracket





1. Loosely install the new transmission mount bracket mount bolts and nut.

2. Install the ground cable.

7. Raise The Vehicle On The Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

8. Subframe Support





1. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).

9. Front Subframe - Alignment

NOTE:
* Align the front subframe in the following sequence.
* When Installing, align both installation reference holes in the subframe with both reference holes in the body using the subframe alignment pin as a guide.

1. Lift the front subframe (A) up to the body, and loosely install new subframe mounting bolts (B, C).






2. Loosely install new mid mounting bolts (D).

3. Insert the subframe alignment pin (E) through the positioning hole (F) on the right rear subframe, and into the positioning hole (G) on the body, then loosely tighten the subframe right rear mounting bolt.

4. Insert the subframe alignment pin through the positioning hole on the left rear subframe, and into the positioning hole on the body, then loosely tighten the subframe left rear mounting bolt.

5. Tighten the subframe mounting bolts to the specified torque values starting with the right rear subframe mounting bolt. Use the subframe alignment pin when tightening the rear side subframe mounting bolts.

6. Check all of the subframe mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary.

NOTE: Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

7. Tighten the mid mounting bolts to the specified torque.

8. After reinstalling all remaining parts, check and adjust the front wheel alignment.

10. EPS Motor Connector - Disconnection/Reconnection





1. Install the harness clip (A).

2. Pull down the lever (B) of the EPS motor 3P connector (C), then confirm the connector is fully seated.

3. Connect the Connectors (D).

11. Lower Torque Rod - Reconnection





1. Loosely install the new lower torque rod mounting bolts.

12. Lower Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Loosen





1. Loosen the lower torque rod mounting bolt (A).

13. Front Engine Mount - Disconnection/Reconnection





1. Loosely install the front engine mount mounting bolt.

14. Lower The Vehicle On The Lift

1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.

15. Engine Support Hanger





1. Remove the engine support hanger.

2. Remove the universal lifting eyelet and the spacer (A).

16. Side Engine Mount - Tighten





1. Tighten the side engine mount bracket mounting bolt and nut.

17. Transmission Mount - Tighten





1. Tighten the transmission mount bracket mounting bolt and nuts.

18. Raise The Vehicle On The Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

19. Lower Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Tighten





1. Loosen the lower torque mount mounting bolt.

2. Tighten the lower torque rod mount mounting bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

20. Lower The Vehicle On The Lift

1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.

21. Upper Torque Rod





1. Install the upper torque rod using new bolts.

2. Tighten the upper torque rod mounting bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

22. Raise The Vehicle On The Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

23. Front Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Tighten





1. Tighten the front engine mount mounting bolt.

24. Shift Cable - Reconnection A/T Side (2WD of USA Produced Models)

2WD of USA Produced Models





1. Install the shift cable bracket (A).

2. Install the control lever (B) over the selector control shaft (C).

NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

3. Install the lock bolt (D) using a new lock washer (E).

4. Pry up the lock tab (F) of the lock washer against the bolt head.

25. Shift Cable - Reconnection A/T Side (Except 2WD of USA Produced Models)

Except 2WD of USA Produced Models





AWD/4WD





1. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).

2. Install the shift cable bracket(s) (C).

3. Attach the shift cable end to the selector control lever (D), then insert the control pin (E) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end.

NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

4. Secure the control pin with the spring clip (F).

26. Shift Cable Cover

2WD





AWD/4WD





1. Install the shift cable cover (A).

27. Compressor Assembly - Move





1. Install the A/C compressor.

28. Driveshaft Front Left - Reconnection, Inboard Side





1. Install a new set ring (A).





2. Clean the areas where the driveshaft contacts the differential thoroughly with solvent.

NOTE: Do not wash the rubber parts with solvent.

3. Dry the areas where the driveshaft contacts the differential thoroughly with compressed air.

4. Insert the inboard end (A) of the driveshaft into the differential (B) until the set ring (C) locks in the groove (D).

NOTE: Insert the driveshaft horizontally to prevent damaging the oil seal.

29. Front Driveshaft Both Outboard Side - Reconnection









1. Apply about 5 g (0.18 oz) of molybdenum grease to the contact area (A) of the outboard joint and the front wheel bearing.

NOTE: The grease helps to prevent noise and vibration.

2. Install the outboard joint (B) into the front hub (C) on the knuckle.

30. Front Driveshaft Spindle Nut Both





1. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the seating surface of a new spindle nut (A).

2. Install the spindle nut.

3. After tightening, use a drift to stake the spindle nut shoulder (B) against the driveshaft.

31. Lower Arm Joint - Reconnection, Both Knuckle Side





1. Connect the lower arm to the knuckle on both sides using new flange bolt and new self-locking nuts.

2. After lightly tightening all three fasteners, tighten them to the specified torque in the following order; the nut on the front (B), the nut on the rear (C), then the bolt (D).

32. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Connection, Both Side





1. Wipe off any grease contamination from the ball joint tapered section and threads.

2. Connect the tie-rod ball joint (A) to the knuckle.

3. Install the nut (B) and tighten to the specified torque.

4. Install a new cotter pin (C).

NOTE: Bend the cotter pin as shown.

33. Front Stabilizer Link Stabilizer Bar Side - Reconnection, Both Side





1. Connect both sides of the stabilizer link (A) to the front stabilizer bar (B).

2. Install the flange nuts (C), and tighten them to the specified torque while holding the respective joint pin (D) with a hex wrench (E).

34. Under Floor TWC Assembly





1. Install the under-floor TWC.

35. Propeller Shaft Assembly (AWD/4WD)





1. Install the propeller shaft assembly (A), then Install new center support bearing mounting bolts (B).

36. Propeller Shaft Differential Side - Reconnection (AWD/4WD)





1. Set the No. 2 propeller shaft (A) to the rear differential companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C) you made during the removal procedure.

2. Install new No. 2 propeller shaft flange bolts (D) to the specified torque.

37. Propeller Shaft Transmission Side - Reconnection (AWD/4WD)





1. Set the No. 1 propeller shaft (A) to the transfer companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C) you made during the removal procedure.

2. Install new No. 1 propeller shaft flange bolts (D) to the specified torque.

38. Propeller Shaft Protector No.2 (AWD/4WD)





1. Install the No. 2 propeller shaft protector (A).

39. Propeller Shaft Protector No.1 (AWD/4WD)





1. Install the No. 1 propeller shaft protector (A).

40. Left Middle Floor Undercover (AWD/4WD)





1. Install the left middle floor undercover (A), then install the bolts (B) and the clips (C, D). The clips snap into place securely.
