Installation






Electrical Compass Unit Removal and Installation





Installation

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

1. Electrical Compass Unit





1. Install the electrical compass unit (A).

2. Headliner - Check





1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and removed trim pieces, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.

2. To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:

* Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
* Any damages around the grab handle holes (B) or the sunvisor holes (C) in the headliner
* Any clip bases (D) which have come off the headliner
* Any fasteners (E) or clip bases (F) which have come off the headliner

3. Headliner





1. With the help of an assistant, slide the headliner (A) through the tailgate opening.

NOTE: Do not bend the headliner. Bending the headliner will crease and damage it.

Without moonroof





With moonroof





2. With the help of an assistant, install the headliner (A), then push on the clips (B) and the fasteners (C) which will snap into place securely.





3. At the right quarter pillar, connect the connectors (A), and install the connector clips (B) and the harness clip (C).





4. At the passenger's A-pillar, connect the connectors (A), and install the harness clips (B).





5. Without moonroof: At the driver's A-pillar, connect the connector (A), and install the harness clips (B).

4. Sunvisor - Check





1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the sunvisor, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.

2. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, inspect the sunvisor for damage. A damaged sunvisor may cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury. Replace the sunvisor if it has any of the following damage:

* Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket (A)
* Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (B)
* Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor shaft (C)
* Any cracks in the sunvisor base (D)
* Any cracks in the vanity mirror base (E)

3. If the holder grommet is damaged or stress-whitened, replace the holder grommet and the holder as an assembly.

5. Sunvisor - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Connect the connector (A), and install the sunvisor (B).





2. While holding the bracket cover (A), rotate the sunvisor (B) forward until the tab (C) snaps into place.

3. Gently pull down on the sunvisor to make sure it is properly secured in the body.

4. Rotate the sunvisor into the holder (D).

6. Grab Handle - Check





1. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, inspect the grab handle (A) for damage. A damaged grab handle may cause the side curtain airbag to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury. Replace the grab handle if it has any of the following damage:

* Any cracks or breakage in the grab handle
* Any cracks or stress-whitening in the caps (B)

7. Grab Handles for One Vehicle





1. Install the clips (A) on the grab handle (B).

2. Install the caps (C) fully into the clips.





3. Position the grab handle (A) on the grab handle bracket (B).

4. Push on the grab handle until the clips (C) snap into place securely.

8. Cargo Area Light





1. Connect the connector.

2. Install the cargo area light (A).

3. Install the bulb.

4. Carefully install the lens (B).

9. Rear Controller and Screen (With RES)





1. Install the rear controller and screen (A).

2. Connect the connector.

10. Rear Display Cover (With RES)





1. Install the rear display cover (A).





2. Connect the connector.

3. Install the ceiling light (B).

4. Carefully install the lenses (C).

11. Ceiling Light (without RES)





1. Connect the connector.

2. Install the ceiling light (A).

3. Install the bulb.

4. Carefully install the lens (B).

12. Roof Console Assembly





1. Connect the connectors (A), then install the roof console assembly (B).

2. Install the screws (C, D), then install the lenses (E).

13. Quarter Pillar Trim - Check





1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the quarter pillar trim (A), along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.

2. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the quarter pillar trim and note the following items:

* To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the quarter pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitening in the quarter pillar trim
- Any cracks or stress-whitened areas in the clip seating surfaces (B)

* After checking and adjusting the overlap between the headliner and the quarter pillar trim, replace the upper clip (C) with a new one.
* If the clips (D) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

14. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check





Checking and Adjusting the Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap

To prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying and damaging the pillar trim (A-pillar trim, B-pillar trim, quarter pillar trim), the overlap between the headliner and pillar trim must be 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in). To check the overlap, do this:

1. Install the headliner (A) and the pillar trim (B).





2. Apply masking tape (A) to the headliner (B) to mark the upper edge of the pillar trim (C).





3. Remove the pillar trim, and measure the headliner overlap.

* If the overlap is 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in), remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.
* If the overlap is more than 8.0 mm (0.31 in), go to step 4.





4. Carefully trim the headliner with a utility knife, reducing the overlap to 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in).

5. Remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.

15. Quarter Pillar Trim - Both Sides





1. Install a new clip (A) to the quarter pillar trim (B).





2. Pass the rear seat belt lower anchor (A) through the hole in the quarter pillar trim (B).

3. Fit the clips into the holes in the quarter pillar.

4. Lightly push the quarter pillar trim into place, then install the trim.

NOTE:
* Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or the ribs.
* Do not push too hard on the quarter pillar trim. If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly.
* Gently tug on the quarter pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened.
* Make sure the clips (C, D, E) snap into place securely.

16. Rear Side Trim Panel - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the rear seat release cable (A) to the clips (B) of the rear side trim panel (C).

NOTE: Align the marks (D) with the clips as shown.





2. Install the rear seat release lever (A) to the rear side trim panel (B).





3. Install the rear side trim panel (A). Make sure the hooks (B), the tabs (C), and the clips (D, E) snap into place securely.

4. Install the clips (F, G).





5. Install the tie-down hook (A), then install the bolt (B).





6. Install the trunk hook (A).





7. Install the screws (A), then install the rear seat release lever cap (B). Make sure the upper hook (C) and the lower hooks (D) snap into place securely.

17. Rear Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Both Sides





1. Install the rear seat belt lower anchor bolt (A).

NOTE: Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

18. Rear Seat Cushion Foot Cover - Both Sides (Remove The Outer Left Side Only)

1. Install the rear seat cushion foot cover (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

19. Rear Carpet Trim - Both Sides

1. Install the rear carpet trims (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

Left side

2. Install the rear seat-back cover (A). Make sure the clips (B) snap into place securely.

20. Rear Damper Maintenance Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Fold down the rear seat-back.

2. Install the rear damper maintenance cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) snap into place securely.

21. Rear Trim Panel





1. Install the rear trim panel (A). Make sure the clips (B, C), the hooks (D), and the tabs (E) snap into place securely.

2. Install the clips (F).

22. Tailgate Weatherstrip As Needed





1. Locate the alignment mark (A) of the tailgate weatherstrip (B). Align the alignment mark with the center of the lower area on the tailgate opening, then install the tailgate weatherstrip all the way around.

23. Cargo Floor Cover





1. Install the cargo floor cover (A).

24. Tonneau Cover (For Some Models)





1. Install the tonneau cover (A).

25. B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim - Check

Trim inspection





1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim (A) and the B-pillar lower trim (B), along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.

2. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the B-pillar upper/lower trim and note the following items:

* To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

- Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar upper trim or the upper hooks (C), or any stress-whitened areas in the upper part of the trim
- Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar lower trim, or any breakages in the part (D) fitted with the B-pillar upper trim
- Any cracks or stress-whitening areas in the clip seating surfaces (E)

* If the clips (F) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

26. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check





Checking and Adjusting the Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap

To prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying and damaging the pillar trim (A-pillar trim, B-pillar trim, quarter pillar trim), the overlap between the headliner and pillar trim must be 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in). To check the overlap, do this:

1. Install the headliner (A) and the pillar trim (B).





2. Apply masking tape (A) to the headliner (B) to mark the upper edge of the pillar trim (C).





3. Remove the pillar trim, and measure the headliner overlap.

* If the overlap is 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in), remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.
* If the overlap is more than 8.0 mm (0.31 in), go to step 4.





4. Carefully trim the headliner with a utility knife, reducing the overlap to 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in).

5. Remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.

27. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the upper hook (A) of the B-pillar upper trim (B) to the hole in the body. Push the bottom portion of the B-pillar upper trim to install the lower hooks (C). Make sure the hooks snap into place securely.

28. Front Seat Belt Upper Anchor Bolt - Both Sides





1. Install the front seat belt upper anchor bolt, then install the front seat belt shoulder anchor adjuster cap (A).

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

29. B-Pillar Lower Trim - Both Sides





1. Install the B-pillar lower trim (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

30. Rear Door Opening Seal As Needed - Both Sides





1. Install the rear door opening seal (A). Make sure the seal is installed securely into the hooks (B).

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

31. Rear Door Sill Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side

1. Pull the release strap to fold down the rear seat, then lift-up and latch the rear seat-back in the upright position.

2. Install the rear door inner sill trim (A). Make sure the clips (B, C), the hooks (D), and the tab (E) snap into place securely.

32. A-Pillar Trim - Check





1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim (A), along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.

2. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the A-pillar trim and note the following items:

* To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the A-pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the A-pillar trim
- Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)

* After checking and adjusting the overlap between the headliner and the A-pillar trim, replace the upper clip (C) with a new one.
* If the clips (D) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

33. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check





Checking and Adjusting the Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap

To prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying and damaging the pillar trim (A-pillar trim, B-pillar trim, quarter pillar trim), the overlap between the headliner and pillar trim must be 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in). To check the overlap, do this:

1. Install the headliner (A) and the pillar trim (B).





2. Apply masking tape (A) to the headliner (B) to mark the upper edge of the pillar trim (C).





3. Remove the pillar trim, and measure the headliner overlap.

* If the overlap is 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in), remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.
* If the overlap is more than 8.0 mm (0.31 in), go to step 4.





4. Carefully trim the headliner with a utility knife, reducing the overlap to 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in).

5. Remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.

34. A-Pillar Trim - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Carefully install a new upper clip (A) to the A-pillar trim (B).





2. Insert the bottom portion of the A-pillar trim (A) into the dashboard (B). Place the trim over the A-pillar (C), and fit its upper clip (D) and the other clips (E) into the holes (F) in the A-pillar, then lightly push the trim into place.

NOTE:
* Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or the trim ribs.
* Do not push too hard on the A-pillar trim. If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly.
* Gently tug on the A-pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened.

35. Front Door Opening Seal As Needed - Both Sides





1. Install the front door opening seal (A). Make sure the seal is installed securely into the hooks (B).

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

36. Front Door Sill Trim - Both Sides





1. Install the front door inner sill trim (A). Make sure the clips (B), the hooks (C), and the tabs (D) snap into place securely.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

37. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection





NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.

1. Clean the battery terminals.

2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.

4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.
