OPDS Unit Removal and Installation
Removal
NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
1. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection
1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery.
NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.
3. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.
4. Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Passenger's Side
1. Carefully pry up on the bottom of the anchor cover (A) at the pry point (B) with the appropriate trim tool to release the hooks (C) and the tab (D), then remove the cover by pulling it upward.
2. Remove the lower anchor bolt (A).
3. Head Restraint - Passenger's Side
1. Push and hold the knob (A), then pull out the head restraint (B) as shown.
4. Front Seat - Passenger's Side
1. Detach the hooks (A), then remove the rear inner seat track end cover (B) and the rear outer seat track end cover (C).
2. Remove the seat mounting front bolts (A) from the front side of the front seat.
3. Remove the rear mounting bolts (A) from the front seat.

4. Disconnect the connectors (A).
5. Front Seat Armrest - Passenger's Side
1. Remove the cap (A) with the appropriate trim tool.
2. Remove the center pin (B), the bushing (C), and the washer (D), then remove the armrest (E).
3. Remove the pins (A) from the seat-back.
6. Front Seat-Back As Needed - Passenger's Side
1. Release the elastic strap (A) from the seat cushion frame springs (B), then pull back the under cover (C) of the seat-back cover.
2. Release the hook strip (A).
3. Unzip the seat-back cover (B).
4. Remove the screw, and release the hooks (A), then remove the cover (B).
5. Disconnect the connectors (A) and harness clips from the ODS unit (USA and Canada models) or the OPDS unit (Mexico models) (B).
7. OPDS Unit
1. Remove the OPDS unit (A).
Installation
NOTE:
* SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* When you replace the OPDS unit, initialize the OPDS unit. OPDS unit initialization initializes the OPDS sensor.
1. OPDS Unit
NOTE:
* Be sure to install the harness so that they are not pinched or interfering with other parts.
* Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.
1. Install the OPDS unit (A).
2. Front Seat-Back As Needed - Passenger's Side
1. Connect the connectors (A) and harness clips to the ODS unit (USA and Canada models) or OPDS unit (Mexico models) (B).
2. Insert the hooks (A), and install the cover (B) and the screw.
3. Zip the seat-back cover (A).
4. Install the hook strip (B).
5. Install the elastic strap (A) to the seat cushion frame springs (B).
3. Front Seat Armrest - Passenger's Side
1. Install the pins (A) to the seat-back.
2. Install the armrest (A), then install the washer (B), the bushing (C), and the center pin (D).
3. Install the cap (E) to the armrest.
4. Front Seat Assembly - Passenger's Side

1. Connect the connectors (A).
2. Install the harness clip (B).

Rear Side
3. Install the seat mounting bolts (A).
NOTE:
* Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.
* Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown. Slide the seat all the way back and tighten bolts 1 and 2, then slide it forward and tighten bolts 3 and 4.
4. Install rear inner seat track end cover (A) and rear outer seat track end cover (B). Make sure the hooks (C) snap into place securely.
5. Head Restraint - Passenger's Side
1. Insert the head restraint (A) into the seat-back as shown.
6. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Passenger's Side
1. Install the lower anchor bolt (A).
2. Install the anchor cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) and the tab (C) snap into place securely.
7. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection
NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.
1. Clean the battery terminals.
2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.
NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.
3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.
4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.
8. HDS DLC - Connection
1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.
9. DTC - Clear
1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
10. OPDS Sensor Initialization
NOTE:
* Before initializing the OPDS sensor, clear the DTCs.
* Before initializing the OPDS sensor, make sure the battery is fully charged.
* A new (uninitialized) OPDS unit installed with a faulty OPDS sensor (DTC 86-1x or 86-2x) can cause DTCs 85-71 and 85-78. If the SRS has a hard DTC 86-1x or 86-2x, troubleshoot the DTCs completely before replacing the OPDS unit.
* Make sure all components of the front passenger's seat are correctly installed.
* Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, including aftermarket seat covers or mats.
* Make sure there is nothing in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.
* Dehumidify inside of the vehicle with A/C.
1. Set the seat-back in a normal position.
2. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then INITIALIZATION. In the INITIALIZATION Menu, select OPDS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the OPDS sensor initialization has been completed.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
NOTE: If the OPDS unit fails to initialize after several attempts, replace the seat-back cover/pad equipped with an OPDS sensor, and retry. If the OPDS unit continues to fail to initialize, replace the OPDS unit.
11. Confirm Proper SRS Operation
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
