Installation

NOTE:
* NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* When you replace the ODS unit, initialize the ODS unit. ODS unit initialization initializes both the OPDS sensor and the front passenger's weight sensor.

1. ODS UNIT

NOTE:
* Be sure to install the harness so that they are not pinched or interfering with other parts.
* Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.

1. Install the ODS unit (A).

3. Install the seat mounting bolts (A).

NOTE:
* Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.
* Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown. Slide the seat all the way back and tighten bolts 1 and 2, then slide it forward and tighten bolts 3 and 4.

4. Install rear inner seat track end cover (A) and rear outer seat track end cover (B). Make sure the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

5. Head Restraint - Passenger's Side

1. Insert the head restraint (A) into the seat-back as shown.

6. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Passenger's Side

1. Install the lower anchor bolt (A).

2. Install the anchor cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) and the tab (C) snap into place securely.

7. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection

NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.

1. Clean the battery terminals.

2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.

4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.

8. HDS DLC - Connection

1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

9. DTC - Clear

1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

10. OPDS Sensor Initialization

OPDS Sensor Initialization

When you replace the front passenger's seat-back cover/pad, the SRS unit, and/or the ODS unit, initialize the OPDS sensor with the HDS.

NOTE:
* Before initializing the OPDS sensor, clear the DTCs.
* Before initializing the OPDS sensor, make sure the battery is fully charged.
* A new (uninitialized) ODS unit installed with a faulty OPDS sensor (DTC 86-1x or 86-2x) can cause DTCs 85-71 and 85-78. If the SRS has a hard DTC 86-1x or 86-2x, troubleshoot the DTCs completely before replacing the ODS unit.
* Make sure all components of the front passenger's seat are correctly installed.
* Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, including aftermarket seat covers or mats.
* Make sure there is nothing in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.
* Dehumidify inside of the vehicle with A/C.

1. Set the seat-back in a normal position.

2. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then INITIALIZATION. In the INITIALIZATION Menu, select ODS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the OPDS sensor initialization has been completed.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

NOTE: If the ODS unit fails to initialize after several attempts, replace the seat-back cover/pad equipped with an OPDS sensor, and retry. If the ODS unit continues to fail to initialize, replace the ODS unit.

11. Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Initialization

Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Initialization

When you replace the SRS unit, the front passenger's weight sensor, the front passenger's seat frame, front passenger's seat rail, or the ODS unit, initialize the front passenger's weight sensor with the HDS.

NOTE:
* Before initializing the front passenger's weight sensor, clear the DTCs.
* Before initializing the front passenger's weight sensor, make sure the battery is fully charged.
* Make sure all components of the front passenger's seat are correctly installed.
* Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, including aftermarket seat covers or mats.
* Make sure there is nothing in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.
* Keep the windows and the moonroof closed (if equipped).
* Make sure the vehicle is on level ground.
* Dehumidify inside of the vehicle with A/C.
* Do not touch the front passenger's seat during the operation check.
* Do not expose the front passenger's seat to sudden temperature changes.

1. Position the front passenger's seat all the way rearward, and adjust the seat-back to the forward most position. Do not move the seat from this position until the initialization is completed.

2. Drive the vehicle, and accelerate to 22 mph (36 km/h), then stop on level ground.

3. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then INITIALIZATION. In the INITIALIZATION Menu, select SWS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the front passenger's weight sensor initialization has been completed.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
