Safing Sensor: Service and Repair






Rear Safing Sensor Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

1. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection





1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery.

NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.

3. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.

4. Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Rear Door Sill Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Pull the release strap to fold down the rear seat, then lift-up and latch the rear seat-back in the upright position.

2. Detach the hooks (A) and the tab (B) from the B-pillar lower trim (C) and the rear side trim panel (D), and pull up the rear door inner sill trim (E) by hand to detach the clips (F, G), then remove the trim.

3. Rear Damper Maintenance Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Fold down the rear seat-back.

2. Pull up the rear damper maintenance cover (A) by hand to detach the hooks (B), then remove the rear damper maintenance cover.

4. Rear Seat Cushion Foot Cover - Both Sides

1. Pull up the rear seat cushion foot covers (A) by hand to detach the clips (B).

2. Detach the hooks (C), then remove the rear seat cushion foot covers.

5. Left Rear Seat Cushion Assembly





1. Detach the cables (A) from the cable brackets (B), and detach the cable clip (C), then disconnect the cables from the seat cushion assembly (D).





2. Remove the bolts (A) securing the left rear seat cushion assembly (B), then remove the left rear seat cushion assembly.

6. Right Rear Seat Cushion Assembly





1. Detach the cables (A) from the cable brackets (B), and detach the cable clip (C), then disconnect the cables from the seat cushion assembly (D).





2. Remove the bolts (A) securing the right rear seat cushion assembly (B), then remove the right rear seat cushion assembly.

7. Rear Seat-Back Assembly - Both Sides

NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Detach the clips (A) from the rear carpet trim (B).

2. Remove the bolts (C, D) securing the rear seat-back assembly (E), then remove the rear seat-back assembly.

8. Rear Carpet Trim - Both Sides

1. Detach the hooks (A) from the rear side trim panel (B), and pull up the rear carpet trims (C) by hand to detach the clips (D), then remove the rear carpet trims.

9. Floor Carpet As Needed





1. Detach the clips, then turn over the carpet (A).

10. Rear Safing Sensor





1. Remove the cover (A), then disconnect the rear safing sensor 2P connector on the floor wire harness.

2. Remove the TORX bolt using a TORX T30 bit, then remove the rear safing sensor (B).

Installation

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

1. Rear Safing Sensor





1. Install the rear safing sensor (A) with the new TORX bolt using a TORX T30 bit.

2. Connect the rear safing sensor connector on the floor wire harness, then install the cover (B).

2. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection





NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.

1. Clean the battery terminals.

2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.

4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.

3. HDS DLC - Connection





1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

4. DTC - Clear

1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

5. Confirm Proper SRS Operation

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

6. Floor Carpet As Needed





1. Reinstall the carpet (A), and install the clips.

7. Rear Carpet Trim - Both Sides

1. Install the rear carpet trims (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

8. Rear Seat-Back Assembly - Both Sides

1. Install the rear seat-back assembly (A).

NOTE: Tighten the bolts (B, C) by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.

2. Install the rear seat-back cover (D). Make sure the clips (E) snap into place securely.

9. Right Rear Seat Cushion Assembly





1. Install the right rear seat cushion assembly (A).

NOTE: Tighten the bolts (B) by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.





2. Connect the cables (A) to the rear seat cushion assembly (B), then install the cables to the cable brackets (C), and install the cable clip (D).

10. Left Rear Seat Cushion Assembly





1. Install the left rear seat cushion assembly (A).

NOTE: Tighten the bolts (B) by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.





2. Connect the cables (A) to the rear seat cushion assembly (B), then install the cables to the cable brackets (C), and install the cable clip (D).

11. Rear Seat Cushion Foot Cover - Both Sides

1. Install the rear seat cushion foot covers (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

12. Rear Damper Maintenance Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Fold down the rear seat-back.

2. Install the rear damper maintenance cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) snap into place securely.

13. Rear Door Sill Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side

1. Pull the release strap to fold down the rear seat, then lift-up and latch the rear seat-back in the upright position.

2. Install the rear door inner sill trim (A). Make sure the clips (B, C), the hooks (D), and the tab (E) snap into place securely.
