Headlights Turn On and Off and Center Dashboard Display Changes From Bright to Dim in the Daytime While Driving

SYMPTOM

With the light switch in AUTO, the headlights turn on and off, and center dashboard display changes back and forth between bright and dim, while driving in the daytime.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The sunlight sensor is too sensitive to light changes.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the sunlight sensor.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Using a plastic trim tool, pry up the sunlight sensor from the top of the dashboard.

2. Disconnect the sunlight sensor connector.

3. Connect the new sunlight sensor.

4. Press the sunlight sensor into the dashboard.

NOTE:
Make sure that the I-MID sensitivity setting is set to minimum (the customer may have tried to adjust the setting and changed it to the maximum setting). The maximum setting could cause sensitivity problems with the new sensor.
