Seat Position Sensor: Service and Repair






Driver's Seat Position Sensor Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE:
* SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* Before doing this procedure, raise the driver's seat all the way up, and position all the way rearward.

1. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt





1. Slide the front seat forward fully, carefully pry up on the bottom edge of the anchor cover (A) at the pry point (B) with the appropriate trim tool to release the hooks (C) and the tab (D), then remove the cover by pulling it up.





2. Remove the lower anchor bolt (A).

2. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection





1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery.

NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.

3. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.

4. Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

3. Front Seat - Driver's Side





1. Detach the hooks (A), then remove the rear inner seat track end cover (B) and the rear outer seat track end cover (C).





2. Remove the front mounting bolts (A) from the front seat.





3. Remove the rear mounting bolts (A) from the front seat.





4. Disconnect the connectors (A).

5. Detach the harness clip (B).

4. Front Seat Height Adjuster Handle - Manual Seat





1. Pull back the cap (A) to release the hooks (B), and remove the screws (C), then remove the height adjuster handle (D).

5. Front Seat Recline Cover - Driver's Side





Power Seat

1. Remove the screw (A), and detach the clip (B).

2. Release the tabs (C).

3. Pull up the recline cover (D) to release the hook (E).

4. Disconnect the connectors.

5. Remove the upper center inner cover (F).

6. Remove the wire harness (G) from the hooks (H), then remove the recline cover.





Manual Seat

1. Remove the recline knob (A).

2. Remove the screw (B), and detach the clip (C).

3. Release the upper hooks (D) of the recline cover (E) from the recline inner cover (F).

4. Release the rear hooks (G) of the recline cover from the recline inner cover.

5. Detach the hook (H) by pulling the recline cover back by hand.

6. Gently pull out the recline cover and remove it.

6. Driver's Seat Position Sensor

Manual seat





1. Disconnect the driver's seat position sensor connector on the driver's seat wire harness.

2. Power seat: Remove the TORX bolt and nut using a TORX T30 bit, then remove the driver's seat position sensor (A).

3. Manual seat: Remove the TORX bolt using a TORX T30 bit, then remove the driver's seat position sensor (A).

Installation

NOTE:
* SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* Be sure to install the harness so it is not pinched or interferes with other parts.
* Check the driver's seat position sensor operation after the driver's seat position sensor replacement.

1. Driver's Seat Position Sensor

1. Power seat: Install the driver's seat position sensor (A) with the new TORX bolts using a TORX T30 bit, and new nut.

2. Manual seat: Install the driver's seat position sensor (A) with the new TORX bolts using a TORX T30 bit.

3. Connect the driver's seat position sensor connector on the driver's seat wire harness.

2. Front Seat Recline Cover - Driver's Side





Power Seat

1. Install the upper center inner cover (A) to the recline cover (B).

2. Connect the connector, then install the wire harness (C) to the hooks (D).

3. Install the clip (E) and tabs (F), then install the recline cover.

4. Install the tabs (G), then install the screw (H).





Manual Seat

1. Install the hook (A) and clip (B) of the recline cover (C).

2. Install the hooks (D) to the recline inner cover (E).

3. Install the hook (F) of the recline cover to the recline inner cover.

4. Install the recline knob (G) and screw (H).

3. Front Seat Height Adjuster Handle - Manual Seat





1. Install the height adjuster handle (A) and the screws (B).

2. Install the cap (C). Make sure the hooks (D) snap into place securely.

4. Front Seat - Driver's Side





1. Connect the connectors (A).

2. Install the harness clip (B).

Front Side





Rear Side





3. Install the seat mounting bolts (A).

NOTE:
* Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten them to the specified torque.
* Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown. Slide the seat all the way back and tighten bolts 1 and 2, then slide it forward and tighten bolts 3 and 4.





4. Install rear inner seat track end cover (A) and rear outer seat track end cover (B). Make sure the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

5. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection





NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.

1. Clean the battery terminals.

2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.

4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.

6. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt





1. Install the lower anchor bolt.

NOTE: Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.





2. Install the anchor cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) and the tab (C) snap into place securely.

7. HDS DLC - Connection





1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

8. DTC - Clear

1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

9. Driver's Seat Position Sensor Operation Check





1. Make sure the driver's seat is in the full forward position.

2. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Data List.

3. Using two pieces of tape (A), make alignment marks (B) on the recline cover (C) and the front door sill trim (D) as shown. The driver's seat position sensor should read NEAR on the HDS.

4. Move the seat back in small increments (about 5 mm, 0.20 in) until the driver's seat position sensor reads NOT NEAR on the HDS. The seat should be about 55 mm (2.17 in) from the front.

NOTE: It takes a few seconds for the HDS to display changes, so wait for about 5 seconds between each movement. If the driver's seat position sensor data does not work as described above, check the driver's seat position sensor for damage, and replace parts as needed.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

10. Confirm Proper SRS Operation

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
