DIAGNOSIS
While driving the vehicle in a parking lot, slightly accelerate then decelerate, listening at the A-pillars for a slight pop, creak, or tick at the base of the windshield.
As a secondary diagnosis, from the outside of the car, gently push down (one side at a time) on the lower corners of the windshield to reproduce the noise.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
^ Put on gloves to protect your hands.
^ Take care not to scratch the cowl top cover or the body.
^ Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
^ The driver's side is shown; the other side is similar.
1. Open the hood. Pull up on the front fender trim to detach its clips, then remove the trim.
2. Pull up to detach the end of the hood rear seal.
3. Detach the hooks and remove the clip, then remove the cowl top cover.
4. Insert a long screwdriver on either side of the hood hinge just below the fender bolt.
NOTE:
The offending sheet metal is a horizontal pinch weld just behind and below the fender mounting bolt. The edges of the pinch weld are pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
5. Force the screwdriver toward the rear of the vehicle with a bump from the heel of your hand or a light tap with a soft-face hammer. Only minimal force is required to complete this repair.
6. Touch up any scratched paint with white or gray touch-up paint to minimize corrosion in the area.
7. Repeat the diagnosis to confirm that the noise is gone.
8. Reinstall the cowl top cover.
9. Reattach the hood rear seal.
10. Reinstall the front fender trim.
