Wiper Motor Test






Wiper Motor Test

Removal

NOTE: Steps 1-5 show removing the windshield wiper motor, steps 6-8 show removing the rear window wiper motor.

1. Both Windshield Wiper Arm Assemblies





NOTE: Set the wiper arms to the auto-stop position before removal.

1. Remove the caps (A) and nuts (B).

2. Remove the wiper arms (C).

2. Front Fender Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clips (A, B).

2. Pull up the front fender trim (C) by hand to detach the clips (D), then remove the trim.

3. Cowl Top Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clip (A).

2. Pull out the hood rear seal (B).

3. Detach the hooks, and remove the cowl top cover (C).

4. Side Cowl Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Detach the hook (A) at the inside of the cowl cover (B).

2. Release the hooks (C) from the cowl cover and the front fender (D), then remove the side cowl cover (E).

3. Right side; Detach the windshield washer tube.

5. Center Cowl Cover





1. Remove the clips (A).

2. Carefully pull the center cowl cover (B) forward to release the hooks (C) from the windshield and the body.

6. Tailgate Upper Trim Panel





1. Carefully pry out the notch (A) in the tailgate upper trim (B) with the appropriate trim tool to detach the hooks (C) and the tabs (D) from the tailgate side trims (E), and pull back the tailgate upper trim panel by hand to detach the clips (F), then remove the tailgate upper trim panel.

7. Tailgate Side Trim - Both Sides





1. Detach the hook (A) and the tabs (B) from the tailgate lower trim panel (C), and pull back the tailgate side trim (D) by hand to detach the clips (E), then remove the tailgate side trim.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

8. Tailgate Lower Trim Panel





1. Remove the screw (A), then remove the tailgate pull pocket (B).





2. Pull out the tailgate lower trim panel (A) by hand to detach the clips (B, C), then remove the tailgate lower trim panel.

Test

1. Windshield Wiper Motor - Test





1. Disconnect the connector.

2. Test the wiper motor (A) by connecting battery power to terminal No. 1 and ground to terminal No. 2 of the wiper motor connector. The motor should run at low speed.

3. Test the motor by connecting battery power to terminal No. 3 and ground to terminal No. 2 of the wiper motor connector. The motor should run at high speed.

4. Connect an analog ohmmeter to terminals No. 4 and No. 2, and run the motor at low or high speed. The needle of the ohmmeter should pulse.

5. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, or there is no pulse, check for continuity of the windshield wiper motor subharness, if the wire harness is OK, replace the motor.

2. Rear Window Wiper Motor - Test





1. Disconnect the connector.

2. Test the wiper motor (A) by connecting battery power to terminal No. 4 and ground to terminal No. 3 of the wiper motor connector. The motor should run.

3. Connect an analog ohmmeter to terminals No. 2 and No. 3, and run the motor. The needle of the ohmmeter should pulse. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, or there is no pulse, replace the motor.

Installation

NOTE: Steps 1-3 show installing the rear window wiper motor, steps 4-9 show installing the windshield wiper motor.

1. Tailgate Lower Trim Panel





1. Hold up the tailgate lower trim panel (A), and fit the clips into the holes in the tailgate.

2. Push on the trim until the clips (B, C) securely snap into place.





3. Install the tailgate pull pocket (A), then install the screw (B).

2. Tailgate Side Trim - Both Sides





1. Install the tailgate side trim (A). Make sure the hook (B), the tabs (C), and the clips (D) snap into place securely.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

3. Tailgate Upper Trim Panel





1. Install the tailgate upper trim panel (A). Make sure the hooks (B), the tabs (C), and the clips (D) snap into place securely.

4. Center Cowl Cover





1. Install the center cowl cover (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

5. Side Cowl Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the side cowl cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) snap into place securely.

2. Right side; Install the windshield washer tube.

6. Cowl Top Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

1. Install the cowl top cover (A).

2. Install the hood rear seal (B).

3. Install the clip (C).

7. Front Fender Trim - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the front fender trim (A), then install the clips (B, C). Make sure the clips (D) snap into place securely.

8. Both Windshield Wiper Arm Assemblies




NOTE: Set the wiper arms to the auto-stop position before installation.

1. Install the wiper arms (A), the nut (B), and the caps (C).
