Wiper Motor: Service and Repair






Wiper Motor Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE: Steps 1-8 show removing the windshield wiper motor, steps 9-13 show removing the rear window wiper.

1. Both Windshield Wiper Arm Assemblies





NOTE: Set the wiper arms to the auto-stop position before removal.

1. Remove the caps (A) and nuts (B).

2. Remove the wiper arms (C).

2. Front Fender Trim - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clips (A, B).

2. Pull up the front fender trim (C) by hand to detach the clips (D), then remove the trim.

3. Cowl Top Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

1. Remove the clip (A).

2. Pull out the hood rear seal (B).

3. Detach the hooks, and remove the cowl top cover (C).

4. Side Cowl Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Detach the hook (A) at the inside of the cowl cover (B).

2. Release the hooks (C) from the cowl cover and the front fender (D), then remove the side cowl cover (E).

3. Right side; Detach the windshield washer tube.

5. Center Cowl Cover





1. Remove the clips (A).

2. Carefully pull the center cowl cover (B) forward to release the hooks (C) from the windshield and the body.

6. Under-Cowl Panel





1. Disconnect the connector (A).

2. Remove the bolts and the nuts, then remove the under-cowl panel (B).

3. Remove the wire harness (C) from the under-cowl panel.

7. Windshield Wiper Linkage Assembly





1. Remove the wiper linkage assembly (A).

8. Windshield Wiper Motor





1. Mark lines (A) to show the original position.

2. Remove the connection rod (B) from the link (C).

3. Disconnect the connector (D), then remove the windshield wiper motor subharness.

4. Remove the wiper motor (E) from the linkage (F).

9. Rear Window Wiper Arm Assembly





1. Raise the wiper arm (A) off the rear window, then remove the cover (B), the nut (C), and the wiper arm.





2. Remove the cap (A), the mounting nut (B), and the washer (C).

10. Tailgate Upper Trim Panel





1. Carefully pry out the notch (A) in the tailgate upper trim (B) with the appropriate trim tool to detach the hooks (C) and the tabs (D) from the tailgate side trims (E), and pull back the tailgate upper trim panel by hand to detach the clips (F), then remove the tailgate upper trim panel.

11. Tailgate Side Trim - Both Sides





1. Detach the hook (A) and the tabs (B) from the tailgate lower trim panel (C), and pull back the tailgate side trim (D) by hand to detach the clips (E), then remove the tailgate side trim.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

12. Tailgate Lower Trim Panel





1. Remove the screw (A), then remove the tailgate pull pocket (B).





2. Pull out the tailgate lower trim panel (A) by hand to detach the clips (B, C), then remove the tailgate lower trim panel.

13. Rear Window Wiper Motor





1. Disconnect the connector.

2. Remove the rear window wiper motor (A).

Installation

NOTE: Steps 1-6 show installing the rear window wiper motor, steps 7-15 show installing the windshield wiper motor.

1. Rear Window Wiper Motor





1. Align the position marks when installing the seal (A), then install the washer (B) and rear window motor (C).

2. Connect the connector.

NOTE: Before reinstalling the rear wiper arm, turn the rear window wiper switch ON, then OFF to return the wiper shaft to the park position.

2. Tailgate Lower Trim Panel





1. Hold up the tailgate lower trim panel (A), and fit the clips into the holes in the tailgate.

2. Push on the trim until the clips (B, C) securely snap into place.





3. Install the tailgate pull pocket (A), then install the screw (B).

3. Tailgate Side Trim - Both Sides





1. Install the tailgate side trim (A). Make sure the hook (B), the tabs (C), and the clips (D) snap into place securely.

2. Repeat this step on the opposite side.

4. Tailgate Upper Trim Panel





1. Install the tailgate upper trim panel (A). Make sure the hooks (B), the tabs (C), and the clips (D) snap into place securely.

5. Rear Window Wiper Arm Assembly





1. Install the washer (A), the mounting nut (B), and the cap (C).





2. Install the wiper arm (A), the nut (B), and cover (C).

6. Rear Window Wiper Arm - Adjustment

1. Adjust the rear window wiper arm. Adjustments

7. Windshield Wiper Motor





NOTE: Screw threads are not tapped into the new wiper motor. Install the new wiper motor as follows, using the self-tapping bolts provided.

1. Position the wiper motor (A) under the linkage (B) and tighten the self-tapping bolts until the bolt heads just make contact with the linkage.

NOTE:
* Screw in the bolts, keeping them perfectly straight.
* Do not use the air tool or impact wrench to install the bolts.
* Use only the self-tapping bolts provided with the motor.

2. Loosen the bolts, then retighten them to the specified torque.

3. Install the windshield wiper motor subharness, then connect the connector (C).

4. Install the link (D).

5. Align the mark (E) on the link with the mark (F) on the linkage.

6. Install the connection rod (G) to the link.

8. Windshield Wiper Linkage Assembly





1. Install the wiper linkage assembly (A).

2. Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step, tighten all bolts, in sequence, to 9.3 Nm (0.95 kgm, 6.9 lbft).

9. Under-Cowl Panel





1. Install the under-cowl panel (A), then install the bolts and the nuts.

2. Install the wire harness (B) to the under-cowl panel.

3. Connect the connector (C).

10. Center Cowl Cover





1. Install the center cowl cover (A). Make sure the clips (B) and the hooks (C) snap into place securely.

11. Side Cowl Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the side cowl cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) snap into place securely.

2. Right side; Install the windshield washer tube.

12. Cowl Top Cover - Both Sides





NOTE: Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

1. Install the cowl top cover (A).

2. Install the hood rear seal (B).

3. Install the clip (C).

13. Front Fender Trim - Both Sides




NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.

1. Install the front fender trim (A), then install the clips (B, C). Make sure the clips (D) snap into place securely.

14. Both Windshield Wiper Arm Assemblies




NOTE: Set the wiper arms to the auto-stop position before installation.

1. Install the wiper arms (A), the nut (B), and the caps (C).
