DTC Troubleshooting: B1176

DTC B1176 : Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Short


1. Problem verification:

-1. Check the fuel gauge.

Does the gauge move to the full position and the low fuel indicator blink?
-YES- Go to step 2.
-NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

2. Fuel gauge operation check:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Disconnect the following connector.





-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-4. Check the fuel gauge.

Does the gauge move to the empty position?
-YES- Replace the fuel gauge sending unit Service and Repair.
-NO- Go to step 3.

3. Shorted wire check (FUEL GAGE+ line):

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Disconnect the following connector.





-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.









Is there continuity?
-YES- Repair a short to ground in the wire between the gauge control module and the fuel gauge sending unit.
-NO- The FUEL GAGE+ wire is OK. Replace the gauge control module Service and Repair.
