EPS DTC Troubleshooting: 23-04
DTC 23-04 : CAN Bus-Off Malfunction
NOTE:
* Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the how to troubleshoot the EPS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
* If the MIL indicator is on, troubleshoot the fuel and emissions systems first.
1. Problem verification:
-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
-3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then start the engine.
-4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 23-04 indicated?
-YES- The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
-NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
2. Open wire check (F CAN-H, F CAN-L lines):
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Short the SCS line with the HDS.
-3. Disconnect the following connectors.
-4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- The F CAN-H, F CAN-L wires are OK. Go to step 3.
-NO- Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the PCM.
3. EPS control unit check (update):
-1. Reconnect the following connectors.
-2. Update the EPS control unit Programming and Relearning if it does not have the latest software.
-3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then start the engine.
-4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 23-04 indicated?
-YES- Replace the EPS control unit Service and Repair.
-NO- Troubleshooting is complete.
