DTC Troubleshooting: P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354

DTC P0351 : No. 1 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0352 : No. 2 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0353 : No. 3 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0354 : No. 4 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information How to Troubleshoot the Fuel And Emissions Systems.

1. Problem verification:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-2. Clear the DTC with the HDS. How to Troubleshoot the Fuel And Emissions Systems

-3. Start the engine.

-4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, and/or P0354 indicated?
-YES- The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
-NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil and the PCM.

2. Ignition coil check:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Exchange the ignition coil from the problem cylinder with one from another cylinder.

-3. Start the engine.

-4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC indicated at the exchanged position?
-YES- Replace the faulty ignition coil Service and Repair, then do the repair verification.
-NO- Go to step 3.

3. Shorted wire check (IG1(COIL) line):

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Check the following fuse.

Is the fuses OK?
-YES- Go to step 4.
-NO- Repair a short in the IG1(COIL) wire between the ignition coil and the No. A17 (15 A) fuse. Also replace the No. A17 (15 A) fuse, then do the repair verification.

4. Relay check:

-1. Remove the ignition coil relay (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

-2. Test the ignition coil relay Testing and Inspection.

Is the relay OK?
-YES- Go to step 5.
-NO- Replace the ignition coil relay, then do the repair verification.

5. Open wire check (IG1(IGN COIL) lines):

-1. Reinstall the ignition coil relay.

-2. Disconnect the following connector(s).

-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Is there battery voltage?
-YES- The IG1(IGN COIL) wire is OK. Go to step 6.
-NO- Repair an open in the IG1(IGN COIL) wire between the ignition coil and the ignition coil relay, then do the repair verification.

6. Open wire check (PG(COIL) lines):

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Is there continuity?
-YES- The PG(COIL) wire is OK. Go to step 7.
-NO- Repair an open in the PG(COIL) wire between the ignition coil and G102, then do the repair verification.

7. Shorted wire check (IGN PULSE lines):

-1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

-2. Disconnect the following connector.

-3. Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate PCM connector terminal of the problem ignition coil (see table).

Is there continuity?
-YES- Repair a short in the IGN PULSE wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair verification.
-NO- The IGN PULSE wires are not shorted. Go to step 8.

8. Open wire check (IGN PULSE lines):

-1. Check for continuity between appropriate ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 1 and the appropriate PCM connector terminal of the problem ignition coil (see table).

Is there continuity?
-YES- The IGN PULSE wires are OK. Update the PCM PCM Update if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM Service and Repair, then do the repair verification.
-NO- Repair an open in the IGN PULSE wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair verification.

Repair verification:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Reconnect all connectors.

-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-4. Reset the PCM with the HDS How to Troubleshoot the Fuel And Emissions Systems.

-5. Do the PCM idle learn procedure PCM Idle Learn Procedure.

-6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353 and/or P0354 indicated?
-YES- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM Service and Repair, then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.
-NO- Troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
