Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - Audio system information does not display on the multi-information display
Audio system information does not display on the multi-information display unit
NOTE:
* Check the vehicle battery condition first Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
* Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
* The climate control unit 32P (black) connector and the HFL control unit 32P (grey) connector are the same shape. Make sure the correct connector is connected to the applicable unit.
1. Determine possible failure area (audio system, others):
-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-2. Check if any MID information appears on the multi-information display unit.
Is there any information displayed?
-YES- Go to step 2.
-NO- Go to Multi-information display unit does not work troubleshooting.
2. Problem verification:
-1. Turn on the audio system, and press the AUDIO button to check if the multi-information display changes to the audio information screen.
Is the audio information displayed?
-YES- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
-NO- The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.
3. Shorted wire check (GA SYS ON line):
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the multi-information display unit and the audio-navigation unit.
-NO- The GA SYS ON wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 4.
4. Open wire check (GA SYS ON line):
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- The GA SYS ON wire is OK. Go to step 5.
-NO- Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display unit.
5. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line, GA BUS- line):
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
-2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
-NO- The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 6.
6. Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line to GA BUS- line):
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
-NO- The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are not shorted. Go to step 7.
7. Shorted wire check (SH GA BUS line to another lines):
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
-NO- The SH GA BUS wire is OK. Go to step 8.
8. Open wire check (GA BUS+ line, GA BUS- line):
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Is there continuity?
-YES- The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are OK. Go to step 9.
-NO- There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace affected shielded harness.
9. Determine possible failure area (related unit, others):
-1. Reconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and multi-information display unit connector A (32P).
-2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-3. Turn on the audio system, and press the AUDIO button to check if the multi-information display changes to the audio information screen.
Is the audio information displayed?
-YES- Go to step 10.
-NO- Go to step 11.
10. XM receiver check:
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Reconnect XM receiver connector A (14P).
-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-4. Turn on the audio system, and press the CD/XM button to check if the multi-information display changes to the XM information screen.
Is the XM information displayed on the multi-information display unit?
-YES- Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.
-NO- Replace the XM receiver XM Receiver Removal and Installation.
11. Audio-navigation unit check:
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Substitute a known-good multi-information display unit Service and Repair, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
-YES- Replace the original multi-information display unit.
-NO- Replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal and Installation.
