Front Passenger's Airbag Removal and Installation
Removal
NOTE:
* SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* If replacing the driver's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
1. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection
1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery.
NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.
3. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.
4. Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Glove Box - Move
1. Detach the glove box damper hook (A), and release both glove box stops (B) by pushing them in, then let glove box (C) hang down.
3. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly
1. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.
2. Remove the mounting nuts.
3. Gently remove the front passenger's airbag and cover assembly (A).
NOTE: The airbag cover has clips on each side where it attaches to the dashboard.
4. Front Passenger's Airbag
1. Cut four parts of the front passenger's cover as shown (A).
2. Remove the front passenger's airbag.
NOTE:
* Always replace the cover whenever you remove the airbag.
* Replace the airbag if the clips or its housing is damaged.
Installation
1. Front Passenger's Airbag
1. Insert the front passenger's airbag housing (A) into the new front passenger's cover (B).
NOTE:
* Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the cover.
* Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the cover is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
* Replace the airbag if the clips or its housing is damaged.
* Do not use tools when detaching the front passenger's airbag in order to protect it.
* Make sure the hooks are set properly.
2. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly
1. Place the front passenger's airbag and cover as an assembly (A) into the dashboard.
2. Tighten the front passenger's airbag new mounting nuts.
3. Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.
3. Glove Box - Move
1. Install the glove box (A). Make sure the glove box stops (B) snap into place securely.
2. Install the glove box damper hook (C).
4. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection
NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery.
1. Clean the battery terminals.
2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery.
NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.
3. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery.
4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.
5. HDS DLC - Connection
1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.
6. DTC - Clear
1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
7. Confirm Proper SRS Operation
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
