SRS Symptom Troubleshooting / Side airbag cutoff indicator stays on

NOTE:
* Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
* Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Programming and Relearning, and retest.

1. System check 1:

-1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.

-2. Make sure the seat-back is dry.

-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and see if the SRS indicator comes on.

Does the SRS indicator come on and stay on?
-YES- Go to Symptom Troubleshooting "SRS indicator stays on, but no DTCs are stored, or cannot be read" SRS Indicator Stays On, But No DTCs Are Stored, Or Cannot Be Read.
-NO- Go to step 2.

2. Body electrical system DTC check:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Check for body electrical DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.






Is DTC U0151 indicated?
-YES- Go to DTC U0151 troubleshooting U0151.
-NO- Go to step 3.

3. Gauge control module check:

-1. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.

Does the side airbag cutoff indicator blink?
-YES- Go to step 4.
-NO- Replace the gauge control module Service and Repair.

4. System check 2:

-1. Do the ODS unit initialization (USA and Canada models) ODS Unit Initialization or OPDS unit initialization (Mexico models) OPDS Unit Initialization.

-2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and see if the side airbag cutoff indicator comes on.

Does the side airbag cutoff indicator come on and stay on?
-YES- Replace the seat-back cover/pad equipped with an OPDS sensor Front Seat-Back Cover Removal And Installation, and retest. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
-NO- The vehicle is OK at this time.
