Rear Damper/Spring Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Vehicle Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.

2. Rear Wheel





1. Remove the rear wheel.

3. Rear Knuckle - Jack Up





1. Position a floor jack at the connecting point of the trailing arm (A) and the knuckle (B).

2. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.

4. Rear Damper Maintenance Cover





1. Fold down the rear seat-back.

2. Pull up the rear damper maintenance cover (A) by hand to detach the hooks (B), then remove the rear damper maintenance cover.

5. Rear Damper Upper Side





1. Remove the flange nuts (A) from the top of damper.

6. Stabilizer Link Trailing Arm Side - Disconnection





1. Remove the flange nut (A) while holding the respective joint pin (B) with a hex wrench (C).

2. Disconnect the stabilizer link (D) from the trailing arm.

7. Rear Brake Hose - Disconnection





1. Remove the brake hose (A) from the brake hose mounting bracket (B).

8. Rear Trailing Arm Front Side - Disconnection





1. Remove the flange bolt (A), then remove the parking brake cable (B).

2. Remove the trailing arm mounting bolts (C).

9. Rear Damper Lower Side - Disconnection





1. Remove the damper mounting bolt (A).

NOTE: Install the damper mounting bolt to the same direction as removal.

10. Rear Damper/Spring





1. Lower the rear suspension, then remove the damper/spring (A) from the vehicle.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body.

Installation

1. Rear Damper/Spring





1. Position the damper/spring (A) between the body and the trailing arm.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body.

2. Note the direction of the stepped part (B) of the lower spring seat on it is toward the inside of the vehicle.

2. Rear Knuckle - Jack Up





1. Position a floor jack at the connecting point of the trailing arm (A) and the knuckle (B).

2. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.

3. Rear Damper Lower Side - Reconnection





1. Loosely install the new damper mounting bolt (A).

NOTE: Install the damper mounting bolt to the same direction as removal.

4. Rear Trailing Arm Front Side - Reconnection





1. Loosely install new trailing arm mounting bolts (A).

2. Install the parking brake cable (B).

5. Rear Brake Hose - Reconnection





1. Install the parking brake cable mounting bolt (A).

6. Stabilizer Link Trailing Arm Side - Reconnection





1. Connect the stabilizer link (A) to the trailing arm.

2. Install the new flange nut (B), and tighten them to the specified torque while holding the respective joint pin (C) with a hex wrench (D).

7. Rear Damper Upper Side





1. Loosely install new flange nuts (A) to the top of the damper.

8. Rear Damper Lower Side - Tighten Under Vehicle's Weight

1. Raise the rear suspension with the jack until the vehicle just lifts off of the safety stands.

2. Tighten the damper mounting bolt and the flange nuts to the specified torque.

9. Rear Damper Maintenance Cover





1. Fold down the rear seat-back.

2. Install the rear damper maintenance cover (A). Make sure the hooks (B) snap into place securely.

10. Rear Wheel





1. Install the rear wheel.

NOTE: Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel.

11. Pre-Alignment Checks

For proper inspection and adjustment of the wheel alignment, do these checks:

1. Release the parking brake to avoid an incorrect measurement.

2. Make sure the suspension is not modified.

3. Make sure the fuel tank is full, and that the spare tire, the jack, and the tools are in place on the vehicle.

4. Check the tire size and tire pressure according to tire information.

5. Set the steering column to the middle tilt position and telescopic position.

12. Camber - Inspection

Use commercially available computerized four wheel alignment equipment to measure wheel alignment (caster, camber, toe, and turning angle). Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

1. Check the camber angle.















* If the measurement is within specification, measure the toe-in.
* If the measurement for the front camber is not within the specification, go to front camber adjustment.
* If the measurement for the rear camber is not within the specification, check for bent or damaged suspension components.

13. Rear Toe - Inspection

Use commercially available computerized four wheel alignment equipment to measure wheel alignment (caster, camber, toe, and turning angle). Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

1. Release the parking brake to avoid an incorrect measurement.

2. Check the toe.

Rear toe-in: 2+2-1mm (0.08+0.08-0.04in)
* If adjustment is required, go to the rear toe adjustment.
* If no adjustment is required, go to front toe inspection.

14. HDS DLC - Connection





1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

15. VSA Sensor Neutral Position - Memorization

1. Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface, with the steering wheel in the straight ahead position.

2. Select VSA ADJUSTMENT, then select ALL SENSORS with the HDS, and follow the screen prompts.

16. Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position - Clear

1. Select EPS ADJUSTMENT, then select EPS STEERING ANGLE SENSOR VALUE CLEAR and follow the screen prompts on the HDS.
