Installation
1. Quarter Glass
1. Scrape smooth the original adhesive with a knife until there is a thickness of about 2 mm (0.08 in) on the bonding surface around the entire quarter glass opening flange.
NOTE: Do not scrape down to the painted surface of the body; damaged paint will interfere with proper bonding.
2. Clean the body bonding surface with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, keep oil, grease, and water from getting on the surface.
3. If you are reinstalling the original quarter glass, scrape off the original adhesive from the quarter glass with a putty knife. Clean the bonding surfaces on the inside face and the edge of the quarter glass with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure the bonding surface is kept free of water, oil, and grease.
4. Attach the front seal (A) with adhesive tape to the inside face of the quarter glass (B) as shown. Before installing the front seal, apply primer to the inside face of the quarter glass.
NOTE: Be careful not to touch the quarter glass where the adhesive will be applied.
5. If you are installing a new quarter glass, set the quarter glass (A) in the opening, and make alignment marks (B) across the quarter glass and the body with a grease pencil at the three points shown. Make sure the pins (C) of the clips (D) contact with the edge of the body holes.
NOTE: Be careful not to touch the quarter glass where the adhesive will be applied.
6. Apply a light coat of glass primer along the edge of the quarter glass (A) and the front seal (B) as shown, then lightly wipe it off with gauze or cheesecloth:
* Apply the glass primer to the rear corner, upper corner, and lower corner areas of the quarter glass using the printed dots (C) on the quarter glass as a guide.
* Do not apply body primer to the quarter glass, and do not mix up the body primer applicator and the glass primer applicator.
* Never touch the primed surfaces with your hands. If you do, adhesive may not bond to the quarter glass properly, causing a leak after the quarter glass is installed.
* Keep water, dust, and abrasive materials away from the primed surfaces.
7. Carefully apply a light coat of body primer to any exposed paint or metal around the flange where new adhesive will be applied. Let the body primer dry for at least 10 minutes:
* Do not apply body primer to any remaining original adhesive on the flange.
* Do not mix up the body applicator and the glass primer applicator.
* Never touch the primed surfaces with your hands.
8. Cut a "V" in the end of the nozzle (A) on the adhesive cartridge as shown.
9. Put the cartridge in a caulking gun, and run a continuous bead of the adhesive (A) around the edge of the quarter glass (B) and along the front seal (C) as shown:
* Use the printed dots (D) on the quarter glass as a guide, apply adhesive to the rear corner, upper corner and the lower corner areas of the quarter glass.
* Apply adhesive within 30 minutes after applying the glass primer.
* Make a slightly thicker bead at each corner.
10. If the original quarter glass will be reinstalled, apply adhesive (A) to the rear clip area as shown.
11. Hold the quarter glass (A) with suction cups (B) over the opening, align it with the clips (C) and alignment marks (D), and set it down on the adhesive. Lightly push on the quarter glass until it's edges are fully seated on the adhesive all the way around.
NOTE: Do not open or close any of the doors for about an hour until the adhesive is dry.
12. Remove the excess adhesive with a putty knife or a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
13. Wait at least an hour for the adhesive to dry, then spray water over the quarter glass and check for leaks. Mark the leaking areas, let the quarter glass dry, then seal with sealant. Let the vehicle stand for at least 4 hours after quarter glass installation. If the vehicle has to be used within the first 4 hours, it must be driven slowly.
14. Advise the customer not to do the following things for 2 to 3 days:
* Slam the doors with all the windows rolled up.
* Twist the body excessively (such as when going in and out of driveways at an angle or driving over rough, uneven roads).
2. Quarter Pillar Trim - Check
1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the quarter pillar trim (A), along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment.
2. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the quarter pillar trim and note the following items:
* To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the quarter pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitening in the quarter pillar trim
- Any cracks or stress-whitened areas in the clip seating surfaces (B)
* After checking and adjusting the overlap between the headliner and the quarter pillar trim, replace the upper clip (C) with a new one.
* If the clips (D) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
3. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check
Checking and Adjusting the Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap
To prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying and damaging the pillar trim (A-pillar trim, B-pillar trim, quarter pillar trim), the overlap between the headliner and pillar trim must be 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in). To check the overlap, do this:
1. Install the headliner (A) and the pillar trim (B).
2. Apply masking tape (A) to the headliner (B) to mark the upper edge of the pillar trim (C).
3. Remove the pillar trim, and measure the headliner overlap.
* If the overlap is 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in), remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.
* If the overlap is more than 8.0 mm (0.31 in), go to step 4.
4. Carefully trim the headliner with a utility knife, reducing the overlap to 8.0+0/-2.0 mm (0.31+0/-0.08 in).
5. Remove the tape, and install the pillar trim.
4. Quarter Pillar Trim
1. Install a new clip (A) to the quarter pillar trim (B).
2. Pass the rear seat belt lower anchor (A) through the hole in the quarter pillar trim (B).

4. Lightly push the quarter pillar trim into place, then install the trim.
NOTE:
* Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or the ribs.
* Do not push too hard on the quarter pillar trim. If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly.
* Gently tug on the quarter pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened.
* Make sure the clips (C, D, E) snap into place securely.
